hey, i'm completely theory-deprived, and i just got a riff worked out for a neoclassical-ish song. the only thing i need to know is what scale is being used, and if you have the time, what chords go with it.

here are the notes that are in the scale as far as i've found:
e|-------------------------|
b|-0-1-4-5-7-8-10-12-|
g|-------------------------|

thanks for your help

Depending on the root, you're using either E Harmonic Minor or its 5th mode, B Phrygian dominant. Without going into the keep theory behind the scales, consider E Harmonic Minor a flavor of the E minor scale and B Phrygian Dominant as a dark flavor of the major scale.

thanks. any ideas on chords that would go with it? i know e minor, and A minor seems to work. any others?

looks like e melodic minor
That would require a C# note which is not there. It's E Harmonic Minor.

I suppose it could be any of the 7 modes, but E Harmonic Minor and B Phrygian Dominant are BY FAR the most common.

The notes are E F# G A B C D#, so the chords are Em, F#dim, Gaug, Am, B, C, D#dim.

It depends on how you're using the riff, though.

It could almost be some off-color A scale. I'm thinking but nothing comes to mind but its almost definitely in A.

I really don't think it is G harmonic minor, it follows the scale formula of e minor with a sharp 7th, its definately e harmonic minor

thanks, and i found a site that'll give me chords for it, so thats all good.
