So my g.f wants to learn to play bass, and I was going to pick one up for her birthday, but I don't really know what to look at when it comes to a bass, and such.

So I'm asking you guys for suggestions, whats a good bass for someone JUST starting new, links would be appreciated. It can either be a package, or just a bass if amps are cheap I suppose.

I'm willing to go up to 350 max I think.

Go here, Bass FAQ -> https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=737491

if your looking at a starter pack, i like the Ibanez GSR190J Jumpstart pack, its got everything she will need, its cheap and very beginner but good to learn on.

If your looking for a cheap, good value bass check out the SX series basses, good woods but not so crash hot electronics. http://www.rondomusic.com/bassguitars4.html.

You'll have to paying shipping, along with getting a gig bag, then you'll have to buy an amp of course. I don't know too much about beginner amps but, just check out that FAQ, it'll answer most of your questions.

NO. Do not under any condition buy SX, they have so many issues that it is just not worth it.

However, the Ibanez and Squier starter packs are fairly good, Washburn is also a good choice for starter basses.
