For fender guitars, what is the difference between rosewood necks and maple necks? Is there any difference in sound, or is it only aesthetic?
Maple fretboards tend to give a brighter sound than rosewood.

yes it's the brightness that is the difference. rosewood is more porus and so the sound is warmer. All my guitars have rosewood fretboards as I don't really like overly-bright maple, but there are people who prefer the brightness of the maple fretboard in their strats/teles.
