hi!

I was just wondering how can I check if my Pre-amp tubes work.
They got covers on them.
I took them off and turned on the amp and and then almost broke my neck checking if they glow xD
is there a easier way maybe?
1. You're surfing the internet.
2. You're browsing through the UG forums.

5. You didn't notice that there was no #4.
6. You just checked it.
7. Now you're having a lil smile.

Yeah, there's a real easy test to see if your preamp tubes work.
Turn on the amp and play it.

I have six, brand new, TungSol 12AX7s in my Mesa/Boogie DC-3's preamp section (one is for the reverb tank). Would the amp simply not make ANY sound if any single ONE of those 12AX7s were bad (except the reverb tube)?

Also, one of the tube's interior top portion (the part that has that reflective metal coating) was not like that mirror-like coating of the others, when taken out of the package. It was brownish. I tried to put that tube in the reverb tank.

The amp will not work or something will be noticeably wrong if any one of the tubes is not working, except the reverb tube which will only effect the reverb.
