Vanessa Carlton's left hand

I laughed so very hard to this.

And, as an addition to the thread, I don't know who she was, and I am starting to think she was a production of my dying imagination, but one day, I walked into the Musician's Friend local to me, and I heard an excellent bass groove going down. I wanted to see if I could talk to the person doing it, but the moment I rounded the corner, I saw it was a rather attractive female.

As such, I was A) intimidated that my slightly mediocre bass skills would make her laugh, and B) ZOMGWTFBBQ GURL BASSIST HAAAAAAAWT!!!!11one.

She picked up the bass she was playing, which happened to be a simple Fender Jazz bass, turned off the amp she was on, and walked out of my life forever.

I've never been the same since.

why are there so many female bassists? is it 'cause they've got the right hand down before they even started playing?

But yeah, Charlotte Cooper is rather awesome

Thanks Chris, but I'm kinda bummed that I ranked behind Ben on the list

Everyone has mentioned most of my personal favourites, but don't forget the grandmother of all us female bass players--Carol Kaye. She broke the mold back in the 1960s as a studio musician and has played for everyone from the Beach Boys to Zappa. Despite having a less than ideal personality at times, she's a solid player.

Didn't the doors start out with a lady bassist?

Yes, I believe her name was Patti Sullivan. She quit before the band's first official release.

I agree with Waynes World, and The Subways. I am unsure that the Waynes World one was actually a bassist, but man was she hot, same goes for The Subways.

As for female bassists as a whole, I find that they are like a fine wine. They do not fit most meals, but the ones they do fit make an epiphone of godly flavors.

The one thing that I do not like about female bassists is that they are competition, but I guess you could apply that to the entire bass player population.

I think many female musicians feel that they have to go the extra mile to be accepted. Until recently, you could have put me firmly in that group, but I realized that's a stupid and dangerous path to take. Frankly, I'd love to see the day when we can get around all that and just be musicians. That's one of the things I really love about Tina Weymouth and Suzi Quattro. They really never gave a rat's ass about the fact they were "female" bass players. They played for the music.

As for the first part, lol, I could get into a large debate on that one with you on that, but I am not sure its worth the effort. I just don't think the sex of an individual really matters much on the ability of the playing or the fit to the music. You alone limit yourself, not your sex. You fit because you are a good bass player, you don't if you aren't.

But I still like you Kranoscorp, even though you feel that way AND own Behringer

Just to reiterate. There's a list of all the lady bass players. All of them.

Except for some girl in an old issue of Bass Guitar I have named Charlotte Froom.

EDIT: Just realized that kranoscorp owns a Behringer, T-Bird, and a Big Muff. That took six years off of my life.

Perhaps he is the antifitz?

And is it just me, or was D'Arcy not very good at bass? You can say she was just fitting the music, but her basslines could've been a bit more intriguing.
