Okay, so I am thinking of switching to a Mac. Anyone who owns a Mac, give me some reasons why the switch would be more beneficial than to keeping my current PC.

I'm on my mac right now! Macs are way easier to do things with ( Once you get used to them ) I find PC's run less smooth than macs by a lot. I have not gotten any spyware on my computer at all which is good for a lot of things.

Because the marketing for the entire MAC product line is that they're 'new and hip.' Also, you'll never be able to game unless you have a PC.

It's easier to work with, for things like photoshop, dreamweaver, flash, ... All of that stuff. Plus you won't be pestered with as many viruses, spyware and adware.

All you have to do to avoid that stuff is a) get better at downloading porn and/or b) download one friggin program that fixes it.

As a long time PC user, I find that Macs are a lot easier to use. The OS is a lot more streamlined and intuitive than windows is. As for gaming, if you have a copy of windows xp or vista you can partition your hard drive so you can use windows for anything your Mac can't do.

You don't have to scan for viruses and spyware and whatnot too, which is great. I've had my Mac book since last august and it hasn't crashed yet, something my dell couldn't do in a million years.

The customer care from apple is great too.

Yes, I know. But on a mac, you don't even have to download one friggin program, because no one uses them, so no one can be assed to write viruses + other crap for it.

Ultimately you should only switch to mac if you find it easier to use, and if you like using certain programs (like the ones listed above).

It really isn't hard to avoid getting viruses on a windows, so that point is pretty much moot if you know how to use a computer. If you enjoy gaming, windows may be easier, but you can run the games on a mac, so that point is pretty much moot too.

Basically, go with what you feel suits your needs.

I love my mac haha. I'm not some pretentious douche like a lot of mac users, and all the mac hate doesnt really bother me. I mean hell, I have parallels, so that shows you I still like windows. There's a good reason right there. You can still have a windows computer on your mac desktop. And garage band is free and a great program. Its all a matter of preference if you ask me. The switch over will take some getting used to though.

I still wonder how you zoom in on a rifle if there is no right click. Do you have to hold control?

I enjoy my Mac quite a bit. If you're a student I would reccommend it. It's just really simple with not a lot of frills on it.

Of course, if you're a gamer - go PC. Unless of course it's a PC with Vista. In that case, throw the PC off a building first and then get a Mac.

If you get a mac, you'll seriously never want to go back to Windows, it takes literally about 30 minutes to get used to how it works.

Try Linux for general use...you can dual boot Ubuntu and Windows and it'll operate as efficiently as any Mac and is better at protection and security (since less people use it and its open-source nature). As long as you don't try doing advanced stuff with it, it's very easy and straightforward to use. Then you can use Windows to game!

I maintain that if you're a gamer, Windows is your best choice. Otherwise, I may in some cases acknowledge that Mac is a possible option under certain circumstances...

Seriously though, someone already pointed out the obvious: with no right click, how the hell do you zoom in for long range shots?

I had a Mac once, I wanted to go back to windows about two days later after realizing how limited Macs are for pretty much everything.

We have 9 mac users in the office and their sh*t crashes (freezes, whatever) a lot more than us PC guys. I'm just saying, macs aren't infallible. Oh sweet schadenfreude.

Mac mice have had right click for about 5 years now.

Go mac, they are great!

yeah, and when Macs crash it's usually a lot harder to fix too.

You can plug in a normal USB mouse into a Mac.

I still prefer PCs though.

I haven't turned my iMac off since I bought it in October last year, it has never frozen, crashed, and I haven't had any viruses or had to defrag or any of that windows crap.

I used to be very pro-PC, but for general use, mac is better.

Old mac, I doubt this person is planning to buy a 4+ year old mac.

All mac desktops come with mighty mouses now.

I LOVE using Macs at my college. We use them for photoshopping and high-definition video editing (using £1000 editing software)
Macs have good and bad faults. Research alot before buying.

Yeah I won't deny that Macs are great for Photo and Video editing (and doing CGI) but unfortunately that's about all they are good for in terms of specialized stuff.

I just bought a MacBook about 2 months ago after being exclusively a PC user for almost 10 years, and now I use the Mac for everything besides games. I just find the OS easier, more intuitive and even more fun to use. I use it for everything now except when I feel like playing some Supreme Commander ^_^

Unless you're a gamer I would say go with Mac. As other people have said, Mac OSX comes with Boot Camp so you can install Windows on a separate partition if you really need it for whatever reason.

I really don't understand how Macs get the reputation of never crashing or restarting. I haven't turned off my laptop (with Vista) since January, and I haven't had any issues at all. Compared to the Macs we have on campus, which crash nearly every time I try to use them. I swear, I open the internet and a photo program and they crash about half the time. That and when they do have a big problem they have to be sent in instead of just having the electrical engineering guys fix it like they do with PCs.

I'm assuming he means that Macs are advertised as a lifestyle, not a computer. Just another reason I don't like them. It seems like a lot of people have an inflated ego just by owning a Mac, yet it's only a computer.

And thats the driving force behind their marketing!! Its lame. Its like people want to do stuff that require computers, but don't want to actually learn to be proficient at it, which is NOT hard, because they feel it will make them nerdy or something. So Mac is tapping into that common insecurity by saying, "look at this old dorky guy! what a knob goblin! he uses PC!! BOOOOooooo, look at Justin Long, hes in cool movies and he uses a Mac!"

Thats all that is.
We're only strays.

Macs are good for graphic design and that stuff.
I can't understand why someone would use a mac for something else.
