In a couple months i will have enough money for a new guitar and amp.
the amp im looking at is the fender Twin Reverb
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-65-Twin-Reverb-Amp-100128187-i1145362.gc

but after i get that i need a new guitar. at the moment i have a Gibson ES-335, but i want something that will hold alot more distortion and will allow me to play heavier stuff.

the ones i am lookin at at the moment r
Gibson SG Standard
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson-SG-Standard-Electric-Guitar-517265-i1149263.gc

or

Gibson LP Studio
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson-Les-Paul-Studio-Electric-Guitar-100161084-i1149146.gc

i play alot of blues on my ES-335, but i also play alot of classic rock like zeppelin, acdc. and i also play alot of zakk wylde.
so which guitar would suit me best.

Les Paul Studios are horrible. I own one. The quality control on them suck.

The only problem with the LP studio is the fact that the standard is nicer, its still a great guitar but if it was me there would always be a sense of regret that I didn't save up a bit extra for a standard, which is why I now own a standard

Go for a high end Epiphone Les Paul.

The guitar you have is a very nice one! You don't really have to play heavier stuff just wait awhile to get a newer one and practice playing cleaner stuff with the one you have already. That amp will sound very nice with that guitar!

I say go for the SG, the standard models is better than the studio models form Gibson.

Girl (Ned/chav) annoying me on the bus.

Me "Have you ever bled out your arse-hole?"

Her: Facial expression was priceless - "What??! Noo!"

Me: "Well if you want to keep it that way, **** off."

She then turned away and whimpered.

Only if it's an 'Elitist'. The 'normal' epiphone customs are far overpriced.
I'd go for the SG, but if you are willing to look at other guitars too, these here have the sound you are looking for I think:

Ibanez AR300RE
http://www.ibanez.com/eg/guitar.aspx?m=AR300RE

Yamaha AES920
http://www.yamaha.com/guitars/products/productdetail/0,,CNTID%25253D60012%252526CTID%25253D600002%252526CNTYP%25253DPRODUCT,00.html

EDIT: Though if it absolutely has to be one of the two you mentioned, go for the SG. The sound is great on both guitars, but you run into quality control hassle less often with (Standard!) SG's.

The Les Paul is basically the quintessential classic rock guitar. However, the SGs are prettier than the LP Studios. Do you want the tone, or would do you want to draw attention?

well i want a really good distorted tone, and i want it to look good.
i already have a great clean and dirty bluesy tone with my ES-335, but i want something that will sound great with a ****load of distortion so i can feed my metal desire.
but i like the look of gibson guitars especially the lp and sg.
i think im leaning towards the SG Standard (Natural Burst).
thanks for all the advice

If you're looking for a nice classic rock sound, nothing will beat your 335. Don't buy a cheap Les Paul studio expecting great tone if you've got a 335 on your hands - nothing will compare. Buy some distortion pedals and take advantage of the guitar you have instead.

If you're looking to feed a metal desire, a les paul studio isn't the guitar you want either. Maybe an SG... probably not. ESP, LTD, Jackson, etc., get a metal guitar if you want to play metal.
Gibson 335 > Your mother.

Get the SG! evertime I play one of those, I feel amazed. It's nice and thin, but has a great sound to it. The Les Paul Studio is also nice, but the SG is better than it.

Or you can save up for a Les Paul Standard, those are really nice.

ya i guess your right, i really dont need a new guitar i just want a new one. but i do need a new amp because the one i have now isnt all that great, so the amp must come first.
what r some good distortion pedals out there, the only pedal i have is a vox wah.

The SG, by a long, long way.

SG Standards are straight-up bloody nice guitars. It's that simple.

LP Studios are straight-up some of the worst guitars you will ever have the misfortune to play. It's that simple.

why in the hell would he want to do that?

i have a studio and i absolutely love it to death... but then again, it is one of the fabled early nineties gems though, so i would not have too much input on the current ones

get an sg standard... those things are ****ing solid and consistant as hell, ive never played a bad one
