Heya.
I've been learning myself bass for the last year or two.
I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers and their bassist Flea.
The thing though is that I learned his style of popping and slapping.

I need to know if this will be a problem for me, as I've seen victor wooten and jaco pastorius pop and slap a different way - the "correct" way.

vic doesnt slap normally, neither does flea. to be honest there is no normal. whichever way you can slap the fastest and the cleanest is the way to go. pretty much all sounds the same. if you think it sounds weird it could be your eq or your strings.

Yeah, I've just figuered out that the Gibson SG is not even close to as good as the Fender Jazz bass when it comes to fast finger-picking and slap/pop. ^^

There is a TOTM on Slapping and Popping the correct way.

There should be a link in the FAQ if you look around.
In the bass chat:

There are different styles of slapping and popping. You don't have to limit yourself to one.
