I have a Randall G3 300W head and the preamp tube is a 12AT7 so i was wondering what kind of preamp tube I can replace it with to give me more gain?

does it have 3 preamp tubes? i was under the impression it only had 1.

edit: but yeah, 12ax7's have more gain than 12at7's, and are direct replacements. so a tungsol would be great.

Woops...But come on, 300w and one preamp tube. I would have thought 3 would have been a conservative estimate.

Tung Sol then.

Edit: Oh, its a hybrid. In that case, changing the tube probably won't give you much more gain.

that tube is not in the preamp, its part of hybrid power amp section, and if i remember correctly some one from randall saying that the amp is specifically designed for a 12at7 in that spot
