Old one died, and no one likes a bump. So I figure, I'd ask any Morello questions in here, and keep editing the first post so other newbs can find em easily...

How do ye get the Township Rebellion "squeak"?

I get that you have to "pick above the nut", but what kinda distortion / other EQ settings do you need, and how do you stop the other strings ringing out?

Just to make things clear:

The Bulls On Parade solo is played using a killswitch or a pickup switch with the neck pickup set to 0 and the bridge set to 10. Then, use either a treble booster or set you wah to toe-down position to get an effective sound. Then, rub your hands on the string and rhythmically toggle the killswitch or pickup switch.

Heh, yeah I get that - I still don't know how to do Township Rebellion properly though. :p

I'm not sure if it's in there, but this month's Guitar Player has an article dedicated to Morello noises. Probably worth checking out.

The Township Rebellion squeak noise is done by picking the D string above the nut. Playing the 22nd fret on the high E String also does this, but it doesn't sound exactly the same. I think you can also only do it on guitars with a Fender Strat style headstock. Oh, and it's much easier to do with high treble.

And as for the Bulls On Parade solo, I can do it, but the 2nd poster of this thread said you need to have the Wah in toe down position - does this mean just have it the full way forward? Or do you "click" it so the wah isn't on?

And I'd be extremely happy if someone could tell me what I need to play Voice of the Voiceless.

Toe-down position means the wah effect is on, but the pedal is as far down towards the floor as possible. This will boost your treble as much as possible with the pedal.

^But you need to rock the pedal at certain points to change the pitch. Like the "fast" section of scratches....^

I just about have Township Rebellion down now. I use a volume pedal so there's no noise in between each beep.

But the intro 4 are hard as hell, and that bit before the solo where it goes "chord-BEEP! chord-BEEP!" is just... stupid. >_>

Wah doesn't affect pitch
