Hey guys, I'm interested in buying an accoustic guitar.
I've never really played accoustic properly before so I'm rather clueless as to what is good/bad and what to get etc.
Pricerange would probably be £600-800

I like stuff like Opeth's accoustic pieces, I don't really know to be honest. It's mainly Opeth's accoustic parts that have influenced me to get one so yeahh.

Any help? Cheers

Martin or Taylor...end of story

Wrong. Higher-end Seagull guitars are absolutely fantastic. Martin and Taylor are not the only brands in the world. I'd suggest that you go to a store and play a few acoustics, first.
Sincerely, Chad.

this is true but martins and taylors are really nice and have amazing tone (i have one of each). it all depends on if it sounds good. just go to a guitar shop and play some guitars and see what you like.

I like Martins but dislike Taylors. Guild has very good quality, very good tone, and is still reasonably priced.

super big fan of taylor guitars but what he said is absolutely true to count out any well built guitar regardless of brand name without trying it is very foolish indeed.

plus in his price range with the shipping and retail markup overseas on taylor and martin guitars i am not sure that even one of those two would be the best for him.

I really think that oscar schmidt makes really good begginer dreadnaughts. Best guitar I've played for the price.

You can get one with a mahogony neck and spruce top and sides.
sigh...

Well I am not discounting all sorts of other guitars but in the price range stated there are some outstanding Martins and Taylors....

I am not just choosing these due to brand names...they are both outstanding instruments.

I would have to conceed that just trying out stuff will be the best way. I would personally use those two as a benchmark for quality and value though.

Going to second this. Dollar for dollar the Guild will give you more.

i am willing to third this opinion. i also like martins and dislike taylors(to an extent). i have never played a taylor to which i have thought "wow, this is an amazing guitar". However, i cannot deny that taylors are good guitars.

for your price range, however, Guild or Seagull win by far. especially for how much you're paying.
