Just wondering if there are any recommended songs or chords/riffs that people would suggest for playing when you have 2 people playing guitar.

I'm guessing this usually involve 1 person strumming chords while the other plays a riff over it, but don't know of any songs off-hand that have 2 parts that are fairly easy to play.

One of my friends I play with can basically play open chords. So would like some songs that he can strum while I play something else overtop of it.

I like most mainstream rock/alternative music.

hmmm, not many around. mainly a solo and chord backin or just a chord backin and some harmonizing. nothing in that sense, just do a random jam.

Iron Maiden.
I'm looking for a tab of The Marshall Plan, by Blue Oyster Cult, and of Mario Minor, by Powerglove. If you have one please PM me.

u gotta find stuff that has dueling riffs...like gnr and aerosmith...

since u say one of u is good and one can only play chords...sweet child o' mine might be perfect

Thanks for the replies so far. I remember the tab for Free Fallin by tom petty seemed to have 2 parts... the main part is based around an open D chord (with like sus2 and sus4 i think) and the other part is power chords F - A# then F-C (i think). That seems like its pretty easy.

I play sweet child of mine with another friend of mine, but I do the chords there... there's no way I can hack the lead part yet!

Would really like to find some songs that are just like, 1 guitar strumming E's and A's, or G's/C's/D's (lots of these out there :P) with another "lead" part that's a fairly simple riff or 2.

Pink Bullets is a real good song! Most songs have a rhythm part and a lead part though, just check a good tab of any of the songs you really like.

That'd be Cliff Williams, mate. But it's okay. I didn't Ozzy Osbourne was in Black Sabbath until I had been listening to them for about a year.

Machine Head's solos are fricking amazing, if any 2 guitarists can play Halo/Aesthestics of Hate's solos, they're kickass :P
#25
Lol... some of the suggestions are ignoring the two main criteria:

1. "relatively easy"
2. "mainstream"

I've only ever seen that youtube vid of dragonforce guys playing ridiculously fast solos but I assume anything else they do could not be called "relatively easy". Didn't strike me as a power chord band :p

I will check that strokes song out, not sure if I know it or not.

You could try Riot-three days grace

The rhythm part is easy, but the lead is pretty fast, challenging, but not horribly hard.
#36
Here's a really easy one

Smells Like Teen Spirit

To be fair only the solo has two guitars but whenever I'm playing with my friend I usually have him play the clean intro and I slide into the distorted riff.
#37
you could just play the same song at the same time.
I decided I want to be more like the people on ug...

Time for a supercool guitar demonstration by herman li,

Herman Li- why is this guitar so big?
