what exactly is it?

(A recent study shows that 92% of all teenagers have moved on to rap music. Put this in your profile if you are one of the 8% who stayed with the real music)

An argument that can be clearly, and definitively understood by any parties involved.

What, did someone tell you to make a coherent argument or something?

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?

In my experience people always seem to mix up opinions and statements. Also they frequently use feelings towards a topic rather then facts to back up whatever they're saying... So my advice to you is make a statement based on facts not your feelings. I mean opinions are great and all, but honestly the way you feel about reality is a lot different from the way it actually is...

I'm a debater, so I'm qualified to answer this.

A coherent argument has three parts: A claim, a warrant, and an impact.

The first is a statement of what you believe. Example: Metal is awesome.

The second is a statement of why what you said is true. Example: This is true because it is really fast and hardcore.

The third is a statement of why what you just proved matters. Example: Because of this, you should all listen to metal.

I don't agree with my examples necessarily, but I just used it to prove a point.

A set of declarative sentences and a conclusion is an argument.
