changing the pickups would definitely change the sound

i think the action only has to deal with playability, unless your trying to avoid fretbuzz

07 Fender American Deluxe Strat
07 Fender Custom Telecaster
09 Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster
09 Fulltone OCD V.4
10 Ibanez WH-10 V.2
09 Splawn SuperStock
10 Jet City JCA-20
97 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Yeh the SICK! bit sounds a bit stupid.

yes, raising the height of the pickups give a "hotter" sound. The guitar will have more bite, particularly the mids.
Suhr Custom, Flaxwood Rautia or Grosh Tele thru
HBE Medicine Bawl Wah
Analogman BiComp
Texas Two Step OD
Fulltone Ultimate Octave/Fuzz
Boss CE-2
TC Nova Delay
SLO-100, 65 London or Bogner Shiva
Ask me about any of this stuff!

you can lift the pups on the treble side (thinner strings) for more treble,
you can tilt the bass side for more bass.

closer for more bite, like said, too close gets muddy.
too far, volume loss.

higher action helps ring out notes, greater sustain.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.
