Mmk.

So I've got a vast amount of unoccupied time rapidly approaching. As well as.
Some spare cash. A house with a studio room to myself. A gorgeous female friend who I've known for years, she also happens to be one of those born and raised southern choir girls.

Being a crazily ambitious person, with no concept of overextending myself, I have to do something with all that cool stuff.

So my summer project, on top of continuing the two metal bands I'm in, is to form a band along the lines of flyleaf, paramore, etc with this girl.

So I figure we need, a guitarist, bassist, drummer, singer.
We've got that.
I figure we've also got talent, and thats always a plus on a pop punk/light rock side, because most modern bands in those genre's, frankly, lick donkey ass.
So.
I need, A guitar thats unique to the genre, yet still could be construed to fit that genre.

I've looked through 70 pages of musicians friend, and so far I've got an Explorer, and a V.

It cant be say, a razorback, because that's fairly obviously a metal guitar.
I've already got 2 strats and a superstrat, as well as a les paul.

So fire away, but lets avoid the wangcaster.

As for the girl, She's taken, and I've been best friends with her boyfriend for the past 6 years, so rape/buttsex/surprise sex/etc, is definetly out of the question.

So seriously, give me some advice on how I can non permanently style myself to be vaguely punky for the gigs.
I've got shoulderlength messy hair, and own SOME tight jeans.

Im game for just about anything.

Wear normal clothes.(If pop punk go with Fallen or Famous gear)
Wear normal hair(with a little mousse)
Just use a Les Paul or a Tele.
#3
Come as yourself what could be more true to defining 'punk' then going against what everybody wears/looks like?

That reminds me of a really nerdy project I did as a sophmore.

A Protestant Punk band called the ninety five theses...it was anti catholic songs.

The point isn't that I want to be a real punk, if I did, I wouldn't be posting on UG about it. Given the "Sell out" In the title, Im asking Ugers who may watch more mtv than I do, what I should attempt to do.

So far the mousse sounds like a plan.

I guess its all for the best, because everyone else seems to understand.

Anyways.

I guess a strat it is then, should I perhaps get my self a stacked pup for the bridge or something? A Jb, or a 59?

I'll probably use the vintage epi strat, so stickers are out of the question, and its in very nice condition, so it looks more...indie? I dunno.

Thanks for all the advice so far though.

Anybody care to explain? I somehow do not understand what the question is.

The question was "What sort of guitar can I use on stage, in a pop punk band, that isnt typical already for that genre, but still fits"

So I was essentially asking for a non metal, uncommon guitar.

Then for image advice, as I dont watch MTV, or know any other modern pop bands other than paramore and flyleaf.

In all seriousness get something that has at least one humbucker.

I couldn't see myself using a guitar that only had single coils.

Thats what I've been thinking. Something HSS, or a stacked Hb for my strats.

As for the fanny pack, I'll give it deep consideration.

Edit: Strat or Les Paul sounds pretty good so far.

The tom delonge strat... JK
I hate that dude.

Mm. I can recommend the Epiphone G-400, Good cleans and all
Maybe the G-400 Custom or Les Paul Black Beauty. (3 pickups XD)
If your that well suited with cash
Maybe the Gibson SG.
But I warn you, I hear you're just paying extra for the Name and Headstock.

Lol. K. Sounds like a plan.

Pickups for punk music?

Most of my guitars have vintage strat pickups, or Metal pickups (Invaders, EMG's, Dimebuckers, Tonezone).

Would something like a JB/59 combo work, or even lighter? I have an old gibson alnico II lying around somewhere, I think. (If thats the right name for it, it came out of a broken lp standard)

Have access to an LP standard, and have a Epi LP Custom.
I'll probobaly use the epi, because I honestly like it more.

Lol.

Because punk music so frequently utilizes 36 fret guitars with floyd roses.

Lol.

The pope would play that guitar if god bestowed him the power to shred.
