OK, I have a basswood 7 string.. play loads of death/extreme metal but i also NEED versatility (clean experimental stuff..)

I've done the high gain route before (X2N's, Invaders, EMGs ..) but they didn't seem to compliment my guitar very well for either spectrum.

I'm looking for a dark, middy, organic.. almost sludgy sort of sound.

and so far i was thinking of a Dimarzio tonzone in the bridge and an Air norton in the neck.

good idea? bad idea?

opinions welcome!

Yeah, the Tone Zone will do sludgy and middy quite well
