If the head and cab are in your price range, you want to be looking elsewhere, namely a valve/tube combo. I don't listen to HIM so I don't know about their tone but someone else can probably help you out.

Also, those guitarists won't be playing those Laneys. The Laney site says Iommi uses the GH100L and the HIM guy uses the VH100R

It's a solid state amp... Which might not really be what you're looking for. Save up and get a tube laney.

Never tried them, but at that price they're likely to be ****e. You can't judge Laney as a brand, but you can judge a Laney product. The majority of the "well known" companies make both good stuff and ****e stuff.

HIM uses VH100R's.
These go to eleven...

Iommi uses GH100TI's.

Get a laney GH50L.

Second hand on ebay you can get they real cheap.

Mate, you really don't, honestly. The GH50L is way louder than 100 watt solid state.
You don't need a 100w. 100w SS is will sound awful when turned up and 100w valve/tube is way more than you need.

A 30w tubey will outblast a 100w solid state.

I like the sound of the LV300H (i think it was called). Great for thrash =]

Still, the VH100R which people have been talking about is pretty good too.

Look for some on youtube then you can listen to what they sound like.

With that budget you can easily get a VC50 from ebay, they're a discontinued combo of the VH100R. I have one and it's great, it'll nail HIM.

EDIT: Lul innuendo.

Providing that you do your research properly, ask the right questions of the seller, buy from a good source (high feedback is a must with ebay), and preferably pay with paypal (they have some sort of buyer protection) it's fine.

There are risks, but for the price you're not going to do much better.

Although, there is a user here on UG who's trying to sell his VC50 to someone from this forum, his username is t1000.

Nah, that's just switchable drive, not separate channels. You can get cleans from the GH but you'll have to fiddle with your gain and EQ knobs.
