What's your price range? And while we're on the topic, why does it have to be a Martin? I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just curious.

I think forgetting what exactly the cost is, the most revered inexpensive Martin is the D-15.

What's the lowest costing Martin with the best sound for the price?

D-15. The X series is an absolute joke. Avoid them like the plague.

I played a Martin DM(yes, it's all solid). I thought it was decent. It's worth the price if you find one that really shines.

Otherwise... the D-15 is the first martin worth it's cost. great guitar.

ohh well, cross that one off the list then. D-15 it is!

You're probably confusing the Martin DM with the Martin Custom D. The latter has solid mahogany back and sides with a solid spruce top.
