26-34 Lee-Swail
24-36 Steve Davis-Bingham
19-41 Dott-Perry

My favourite to win - Matthew Stevens
- The Welsh Dragon has a record of winning 1 ranking event (UK) and 5 non-ranking events including the now-ranking tournament, North Ireland Trophey.
- Formerly Top 16 (just dropped out and his poor form was due to the death of his best friend and fellow snooker player, Paul Hunter).
- 2-time World Championship Finalist
- Steven's has never lost in the first round, which has got Higgins worried
- I have faith that Stevens will reach at least the Semi-Final

Come on Stevens!

couldn't you just add a poll to that one?

Mate, you've been here since July 2006. Anyone who has been on UG for so long knows that you can't add a poll once you start a thread. I could have asked a mod (which I originally did) but to save the trouble, I made a new thread.

I voted Ronnie, mostly because I'm such a fanboy I guess (as most people are).

I don't think you can predict though. If Graeme Dott won it... Let's just say quality doesn't equal success.

Anyway, I'm hoping for Ronnie, Selby, Higgins, Cope (long shot, I know, I'd like to see Williams in there more actually but that's even more unrealistic) in the semi finals.

Whoever goes through from thereon doesn't really matter for me. They all deserve the title in my eyes.
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice.

Remember: A prudent question is one half of wisdom.

Whether Ronnie wins or not depends on his state of mind. He literally threw away the China Open and lost to Marco. It seemed as though he wasn't bothered about winning but wanted to show off to the crowd. I don't blame him for wanting to show up but I doing risky shots in order to please the crowd at such a crucial time isn't going to win him anything.

Come on Stevens!

I'm not watching it 'til they change the themetune back to the original.

Those bastards....

Bill Bailey did a wonderful sketch about that tune. I can also play it!

TS, I'm gunna say O'Sullivan, if he can be bothered.
#12
I don't think it's a case of if he can or can't be bothered - he's clearly got bipolar or something similar.
#13
Steve Davis FTW!!!

Well he could win, and i think he will. Either him or Stephen Lee.

Steve Davis? I think he's past his sell by date - same goes for Mark and Hendry (Doherty is drifting off slightly too). It's unfortunate he's dropped out of the Top 16 but he's still carrying on with the professional tour.

I voted for O'Sullivan, but Murphy, Selby, Maguire, Higgins could win it too. Maybe Stevens, or even Ding.
It's gonna be a blue day

Doherty will win!

I met him a couple of years ago, and he was a really nice guy!

Ronnie as everyone keeps saying has Bi-polar disease but that's no excuse. He's won tournaments with Bi-Polar before (the last World Championship he won) and that shouldn't really affect him. What is affecting him is whether he's really bothered or not. Ronnie on absolute top form can be beat anyone. A grade D-Ronnie even managed to beat a Grade A-Selby during the UK - remember that anyone when Ronnie looked as though he was about to lose (apparently, he counted the dots on a spoon to help him...). For example, in the China Open, he should have beaten Marco Fu 5-4 but ended up trying to do a crowd pleaser which ultimately led him to lose the match, especially seeing as he needed that red because it was frameball. What people fail to realise that the point of the game is to win - doesn't matter how you do it. Speaking of depression - Graeme Dott was recently diagnosed with Depression following on his terrible losing streak (he's lost the past 14 matches) and he did contemplated pulling out of the World Championship. It was only yesterday that World Snooker confirmed that he will still be playing. Personally, I think Dott is the world Champion there ever was.

Murphy, Maguire and Selby have equal chance in my honest opinion. If I was to pick one player who I think will win this year, I'll be either Selby of Higgins. Stevens, I'm hoping will make the Semi's but again, I wouldn't pick Stevens as favourite to win the Crucible. Ding, personally, I think won't have a chance because his temperment is terrible. He's up against Provisionally ranked #13, Marco Fu who is a seeded player having won the Grand Prix. It's a fact, Marco Fu has a better record against Ronnie O'Sullivan than anyone else on the circuit. Marco and Ronnie have played each other 13 times with Marco having beaten Ronnie 7 times.

Doherty - again, I think past his sellby date.

I'm going with Maguire. He's been on the brink of doing something for awhile and I feel this could be his year.

Ronnie will either destroy everyone or crash out in the first two rounds, depending on which Ronnie turns up.

C'MON SELBY!!

He's been my favourite player for ages... Hope he wins, might put some money on him winning at the bookies tomorrow actually.

I've got a strange feeling Murphy'll win it though. I reckon Ronnie'll get to the semi's

edit: I'd like to see Stevens destroy Higgins, can't stand him for some reason.

Selby's got a good thing going for him. About a year ago he was a nobody. Now he's won 2 events, one non-ranking and one ranking including the Masters! What better way to win! He's also a World Champion finalist. You hate Higgins so much you'll remember he actually beat Selby to claim last years Crucible title. Personally, I don't mind Higgins. He's a solid A-class player but I hope he loses bad to Stevens.

Murphy is a good player but he seems to be in more finals than actually winning the tournaments.

The Snooker Hall of Fame is now on, on Eurosport, channel 410. Higgins and Stevens are set to play at 10am. For those who don't have sky, you're going to have to wait until 4:30, Channel 2. Those with sky can press the red button and view the match there (it's not actually broadcasted on TV until 4:30 for the late wakers).

EDIT: Oh fuck

7-2 to Higgins

Meh - it's not finished yet despite the odds being 52-8 on John Higgins. Stevens was set to do a 147 but faltered after that fluked black. I would like to see a 147 in this tournament.

Meanwhile, Cope is playing well. And by the way, to the user above, I personally don't feel Ding Junhui is ready yet.

I've just been watching a bit of the Higgins match.

I hope I'll be able to watch most of the tournament, but I usually just forget about it.

Anyway, I'll be rooting for O'Sullivan, as usual.
