Well, I have a Valveking, and the speakers are great. However, when I play the harder stuff at high volumes, they start to muddy up on the lower strings. Whenever I play a riff, some of the notes sound jumbled, and... crappy. I have to keep my volume below 8 before I can hear them clearly, and that's just not acceptable.

Any suggestions?

It's a 212.

You really cant go wrong with a Celestion, Weber, or nearly any specialty-brand speaker. Vintage 30s seem like a good, obvious choice.

Well, I'm not really a fan of Celestions to be honest. From what I played, they tend to get muddy also.

How about Eminence, or Altecs?

I hear some good things about those.

Really, I want to keep my clean, and overdriven tone, because I love them but I just want the gain to have a bit more clarity.

Wait, wait, it's unacceptable to play a 100 watt 2x12" tube combo below 8? If you mean 8/10, I weep for you.

I play at full volume like... 9 out of 10 times. It's awesome.

Somethings not right there. You either live on your own, have very tolerant neighborers and have very, very bad ears or you have your amp attenuated or your powertubes have gone bad.

V30's tend to tighten up the low end which might be what your looking for.

My neighbours live 3 miles away. The amp sounds great at full volume? Especially for stuff like Stevie Ray Vaughan. I love it.

To be honest, not really. This is from years of concerts, and heavy iPod use however. =\

I know it's loud, but come on, it's not that loud.

Yea, it is. My 33 watt Crate through an efficeint 4x12" is actually painful, when cranked. And I wear earplugs.

Perhaps your cutting the master volume and cranking the channel volume? That or your poweramp is malfunctioning due to a bad tube(s).

No, I'm sure it's the speakers. What happens is I turn it down to about 8 and the notes do come in clearly, but cranked the notes on the low e, and A are really muddy, and it's annoying.

I'm almost positive the amp is fine.

Maybe it's my guitar? Doubt it, but it could be.

Do you have any sort of amp? Plug your guitar into that amp and see if it sounds fine, if so its not your guitar.

You can take your valveking into a store and ask to try out an external cab. If it still sounds crappy then its not your speakers.
