metal is rock, but rock is not necessarily metal. You both lose.

norma jean isnt music.

btw TS, your friend loses as metal and rock are not the same thing. However YOU LOSE AS WELL, as you have used ther terms rock and rock n roll interchangably in your poll question and thread synopsis. These are not the same either.

So you're no good at being a genre nazi
I've been here since '04.

Metal is a subgenre of Rock, they can be similar or they can be very different, depends on what exactly you are talking about, both genres are insanely diverse.

Metal is rather similar to rock, just further distorted and in some cases better musicianship.

My sister thinks rock is emo. She thinks anything heavier than rock is emo. She is younger than me.

Hence, it shall be declared on this day, that if a musician has younger siblings who aren't musicians, their statements are irrelevant.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

Tie your brother down in a pentagram surrounded by candles and sodomize him. Afterwards, tell him that rockstars don't do that.

Metal came from rock in a way they're the same if you compare it in that sense.

However that being set aside sound wise metal is quite different compared to how rock is currently defined.

Fool. It's always been that way.

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?

Fail

Listen to the orgasmic pleasure of Agalloch, Opeth, Tool, King Diamond, Nevermore, etc, etc, etc.

The wonderful thing about metal is that there are so many subcategories, that almost everyone will find something they like.

You just have to look at the right kind of metal.

They're not all metalcore bands, screaming like pussies, playing overly distorted guitar to try to sound more like white noise than the last metalcore band.

And that being said, they're not all Cannibal Corpse death metal, trying to make each song more and more br00t4l.

Theres good metal, its just not the most common heard.
