I'm planning to "build a guitar". I'm gonna order a Jem body, a maple neck, and I have the rest. But I would have to buy another pickup...or would I?

I have some EMGs lying around, they were in my Ibanez S when I got it. I changed them for passives and a EMG afterburner, because the EMG's sounded like angry bees in a can, and there were no place for a 18v mod.

Now in a Jem, there would be plenty of space for a 18v mod, so can EMGs with 18v mod get a good "Van Halenish" or something like that sound?
See, I like high gain and lots of sustain so I can shred, but I'm not all that into heavy ass metal.

Would it work?

Because else, I'm gonna have to wait and get some money for another pickup. xD

yes it would work better than ANY other pickup combination you could imagine, trust me.

Will have to try it out then :p.

I am personally a big fan of passives and I love my Dimarzio and Caparison pickups (the caparison has a very special sound), but the EMG thing sounds interesting. Will try.
I just hope it won't be to scooped.
