should i spend about $2300 on single effects (i know your thinking ZOMG THATS ALOT but its a little of everything and they are all high end ones) or should i just spend $450 on a boss GT-8? is the GT-8 worth the money? i havnt had a chance to play on it but maybe later today i can at the GC. do the effects sound good? do you have to use amp models everytime or can you just use the effects? is it possible to have effects from the GT-8 go from distortion -> GT-8's effect loop -> delay ?

You can bypass the GT-8 preamp models. The effects are alright on the GT-8 but the analog pedals sound better.

Just get single effects as you need them one by one. You don't need to spend 2k on effects you will use once, get them when you are going to use the effect. That is like the most expensive compressor, delay, phaser, overdrive, chorus, flanger, uni-vibe, wah, volume pedal, filter, and whatever else you are getting. You can get a great, useful pedalboard for under $500.

I think it is worth it for decent pedals, sounds much better than multi-effects, even a high end one like the GT-8.

Get the single pedals, but not that much money worth if you can help it. If you want a VERY good board, you can do it for 1000$. No need to overspend on stuff you don't need. Although its 100% your call.

Do you use all the effects in a multi pedal. Some big names use tons of effects others use almost none. Gilmour almost needs a seperate truck for all of his effects, and angus doesnt use any. And having a bunch of stomp boxes can start adding noise. And of course you would need the power to run em all. Narrow it down to the stuff your really going to use or need and go from there. I only have 5 effects I use. You might try the ones you build yourself.

for that amount of money, just get yourself a Line 6 vetta II and the FBV.
you'll have all the effects you could ever ask for, and on top of that, the amp actually sounds good !

I agree! I mean...you could get 5 top of the line moog pedals, 5 fulltone's, and still have like a couple hundred.

If you have to pay that much on effects pedals, you're playing the wrong kind of music.

I kid, but seriously, spend it on an amp!

yeah, new amp would be the best idea. If you were spending that much on multifx, there are pro units that smoke the GT8, like the TC G System/Force, Eventide eclipse/mod/time factor, Fractal AxeFX, etc...

I'm not knocking effects...I Dig delay, compression etc. as much as anyone. But I kinda agree that a good amp may not require all the effects that a lesser amp may need.

Sorta sound like a commercial for the GT-8 (this will do what thousands of dollars worth of pedels will do for much less.)

A GT8 or similar unit is good for recording into a PC and using modeling, etc without the need of an amp. If you have a good amp, pedals should do you fine unless your into some really progressive stuff. I have actually used a GT-8 and they are great units FWIW.
