Have you ever had to use the search bar to find a big thread? Have you ever not been able to find a large thread all together? I know I have, but I have a simple solution to this problem: A sub-forum of large threads.

What the admins need to do is get all the big/important thread and stick them in one sub forum. Threads will only go in this sub forum if the mods think it's big enough. This will help threads from being remade, keep so many threads from getting stickied, and will just make using The Pit easier. The best thing about it, is it really won't cause any negative effects.

Some threads that should go in this subforum are:
Official Drug thread
Sex thread
Relationship thread
Religion thread
Pic thread
Political thread
Hot Chicks thread
The Gays thread
and an abortion thread (there have been way too many)
The Gaming Thread
The Only Funny Youtube vids thread

If you have any other suggestion for the list, please tell.

So give your opinion on this idea and vote!

I think there should just be a sticky at the top of the pit with links for the big threads like there was when the searchbar was down.

good idea,
really this should be in the site suggestions sub-forum move it there and one of the mods might actually do something

they kinda had it, if anyone remembers back when the search bar was broken the mods stickyd a thread that was known as the "Hot Thread Index" for all of the threads that were "hot thread" or had alot of posts, you could probably still find it, i had it bookmarked untill like last week.

EDIT: oh and its a pretty good idea, but like i said, its been done.

Ok, I made it in the suggestion forum here:

http://ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=841337

Is it ok if I keep this thread also since more people will vote here?

probably, just move the link up to the top via an edit, put it above everything else. then keep this thread up, but im might get closed, either way its a good idea.

Gaming Thread needs to be added to that list.

In response to your last post in the suggestions forum thread.
Search function doesn't find threads a lot. I've used the search function before and it has failed for me many times. Even if it did work perfectly, it would still make things easier.

the search function i.e. the search menu NOT the search bar is perfect once you learn how to use it.

It's pointless as those threads will just be recreated in the pit.

Search function isn't very efficient.

It's actually very efficient if you know how to use it.

I do think the suggestion is a good idea, though.

I've used the search function, I'm not talking about the search bar. And it still often times fails. And no, if the threads are in an organized sub-forum, they most likely won't be recreated, and if they are mods can just close them like they always do.

You know if you want to find a long thread you can just sort a forum by views or posts? Click on the top bar in each forum.

Wahappen has said that there will never be subforums to the pit.
However, I still think it's a good idea.

how does it fail?

if you're entering the right thing the thread will come up.

important threads are stickied and even then they're still remade.

It's pointless.

Do you know why Wahappen said that? If he won't make an exception, I think at least the hot threads thread should be permanently stickied.

I would never have thought to do that.

TS, do this. No sub-forum required.

Thanks for that.

The search function usually finds big threads, but it can be a real bitch to find small threads (and yeah, I know how to use it correctly). I think if someone did sticky that hot threads thread, people could still ask for help if they need to find a small thread that they know exists but can't find.

The point I'm trying to make is there are many alternatives to finding large threads, but why make it more difficult? A sub forum, or at least a sticky on the hot threads thread will make threads much easier to find.

because as the 'everything else' forum it shouldn't be seperated/organised.

you can't sticky all the threads because that'd dilute the function of the stickies.

How will a little organization negatively effect the pit? And what do you mean dilute the function of stickes? In my opinion, there are already too many stickies. If those stickies were removed, there would be more room for normal threads on the first page. One big sticky would make things much easier.

No, but that's what frenchy said when I suggested a subforum.
I'd guess it would get a little ridiculous to make lots of sub-forums though.
