I don't know if this is in the right place, but...

Me and my friends want to start up an acoustic type band, we have a guitarist (me), a vocalist, and a guy willing to do percussion. Our problem is that we have no percussion instrument, nor do we have alot of money to spend since we are college students. What are some cheap ideas for decent sounding percussion. I really would like some congo drums, but those are a little pricey.

Tablas are usually pretty inexpensive, and can provide a pretty wide range of sounds.

do what the guy from The Jesus And Mary Chain did

a floor tom and a snare

and you have to stand while you play

water jugs are about 40 cents with water in them. buy it and pour it out if you have to (or drink it).
