I have £400 to spend on an amp. It must be loud enough to play over a drummer and it must have a good overdrive channel for punk and rock.
Cheers.

I just bought a Sound City 40w MARK 6. It's very nice. Great versatility too. Can go from warm bluesy tone to gritty metal just by scooping the mids. And it has wonderful dynamic range. Beautiful clean channel which breaks up so sweetly with a hard pick attack. It's all valve so 40w should be loud enough as long as your drummer doesn't insist on playing as loud as he possibly can. On the other hand they also do a 50w 4x12 half-stack.
When altitude dropping, my ears started popping. One more red nightmare...

YES! Another Mark 6 user!

I've got the head.

So yeah, check out Sound City, TS. The Mark 6s are great workhorses on a budget.
