i'm trying to buy a new amp soon but i have no idea what to get. i've only had one before and i'm not sure if i should get tube or solid state. or if i should get a combo or a half stack. i play mostly 80's rock and i need something to be able to keep up to my friend playing drums.

Don't know what amp to suggest, but get a combo If you can. You'll get tired of carrying around the cab + head.

95 percent of the time, tube is usually a better idea.
That is unless you get a flextone/vetta, or a Jazz chorus.

Not too sure on which amp though. What's your budget?
Call me Wes.
Gear:
Fender American Deluxe HSS Strat
Chicago Blues Box Roadhouse
Bad Cat Cougar 5
1957 Gibson GA-5
Ceriatone 18w TMB Combo
Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor
Various Ibanez TS9s
Weber MASS Attenuator

+ 1 to the combo. My friend has a halfstack and hates carrying the head and cab around everywhere...

Perhaps a Palomino? Maybe a Crate V series (the black ones)? Get an OD with that, and that should cover it.

A Classic 30 would work too, also with a boost.

EDIT: Good call, darkarbiter. What's your budget, TS?

well i dont know if you have a guitar center near you.
but i was there yesterday, and they were selling the 60 watt B-52 at112 for $300 and the floorperson said they were new.
if i had an extra $300 laying around i would for sure buy it.
plenty versatile and it easily has enough gain for you.

+1 for the B-52.. you can't beat the price. A used Peavey Classic 30 is always a good find as well. Or, you could look for used marshall tube combos.
