I just need a decent mic for around $50 that I can use to record my band. We are going to plug the mic into a cheap 4 track that I have. We don't exepect the recordings to be that great, just something for us to record our ideas.

Yeah, I've heard lots of good things about the shure sm57 and 58 but I'm kind of on a tight budget because of college

Check out Behringer stuff. Great bang for the buck. Yeah, you can buy much better gear, but not for the price, and their stuff is very useable.
