I have a Les Paul custom and I plan on getting new pickups and a floyd rose.
I have two questions:

1. Which should I do first??

and

2. What pickups??
I was thinking EMG 80/81 set or some Blackouts.

that is a hell of an amount of routing . i wouldnt put a floyd on it and what amp u using.

Yeah, don't do the floyd, do a Kahler. Waaay less routing. Be aware that actives need new pots (they're usually included with them).

Why don't you just get a Stetsbar?

You should just sell the guitar and buy an Ibanez or similar if you want to turn a LP into what I'm guessing a metal/shred guitar.

theirs a reason for it not having a trem thick sustain

^ever seen clapton's LP with a bigsby? seems to have pretty good sustain. But seriously, go for the kahler, the installation is much easier than a Floyd of any type.

yes well it differnt with a floyd you have to route big cavitys and then he might have to make a cavvity for the battery and some more loss in overall tone

With an LP? battery cavity? no need. Their control cavities are gigantic and very deep, there's plenty of room for a 9V or 2.

Definately no need for a batery route LP cavities are huge!

Don't route it for a flloyd rose, too much hastle. If you pay someone to do it it will cost shedloads and if you try to do it and f**k up you've just wasted a serviceable guitar!

EMG's are not my style so i can't really comment but they seem popular for many heavier types of music.

I've said it before, done it before.
If the TS wants a FR LP, let him have a FR LP!

I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

Floyd Rose wouldn't work. Les Pauls have neck angle. therefore the height of a T-O-M is required. Floyd rose's go no where near the required height.

It seems like you are looking for a metal guitar. for the cost of pickups and a FR. It would be better to get a new guitar.

Unless the body is chambered where the floyd rose routing is done, there is no problem.

Alex Lifeson photo above there.
Van Halen had one.
Neil Schon has a SIGNATURE MODEL FROM GIBSON WITH AN FR!
Epiphone sold them as limited editions.
ESP do the Eclipse's with it.

Kahler? Very much so. Buy some locking tuners or a floyd locking nut though. and a graphite nut if you go for the locking tuners.

^bigsbys are not very good for wide pitch changes-a half step or thereabouts- so I think you'd be better off with a Kahler. But yeah, Duncans are good.
