okay. so i just got a fuzz face clone build from generalguitargadgets.com and the first thing it says to solder in would be the sockets. well, how do i go about doing that?
I know how to solder in caps and resistors and stuff, but i'm not sure how to do this. Do i even need a socket, or can i just solder the transistor directly to the pcb?

The socket means: you can change transistors if they are not to your liking and you won't break them by heating them

Just solder them the same way you would any other component.

Use the sockets....it is very easy to damage transistors with heat.

I like to tap the sockets down with some light tape, solder them then take the tape off. Holds the little buggers down.

but the thing is, the leads arenr very long and don't seem simple to solder.

and then do i just stick the transistor in it?
