I really want to learn this riff on bass, mainly just to show off. I don't know what's called, or if I can find a tab of it anywhere.

It's played by Les Claypool at 6:44 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj0nNZ68Deg

And by Victor Wooten at 1:29 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vdJvHE8qxA&feature=related

So if anyone knows the title of this piece, please let me know! Thanks

Well you'd think their at least be a name for it, since it was coincidently played by both Les AND Victor.

If you want to learn to play bass to show off, you shouldn't learn at all.

Does sound familiar though.
Bands to see before I die:
Iron Maiden
Foo Fighters
Megadeth
Reel Big Fish
Rush
Streetlight Manifesto

Gear:
Epi LP Standard
Washburn Strat
Line 6 Spider (Yes, I know it's bad)

Well I play guitar mainly, this would also just be really fun to play on my bass.

I have a friend who plays bass and he is amazing, he's better than anyone who plays guitar at our school

Bass is awesome, noob
And we will weave in and out of sanity unnoticed
Swirling in blissfully restless visions of all our bleary progress
Glowing in radiant madness

They're just embellishments of generic rhythms I think.

However, learning to play something to show off is a double edged sword that may lose you a lot of respect.

Eh, it's not really showing off. More like dickin' around haha

Now, as I touched on before, you need the skills to "dick around" like that

haha too true, too true

FAIL. Way to miss the entire point of his post and jump to conclusions like a fool.

I had no idea wooten played that same thing, I heard Les play that a long time ago and always thought it was just improv. I too would REALLY like to know what its called.

-edit...

I answered the question second post of the page 2.

Im a begginner and im learning John The Fisherman, is that a good song to learn? Its kind of easy, but it takes time to get the rythym right, good fun to play though. :P

I figured out what the name of the song is. It's by a funk band that goes by the name of Pleasure. The song is called "Glide" and was written in 1979.

here is the original version of "Glide" by Pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3PsoWbW9I

He also hints at "We Supply" by Stanley Clarke, I have included a link to a video of a guy covering the original. It slightly reminds me of silly putty lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaXeoUlplQ4

Enjoy.

-edit-

On his performance at lorely I think it is, during Tommy The Cat he also plays "The Awakening."

Why? Who exactly are you to say he can't learn to play a musical instrument to show off?
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us - if at all - not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
