I'd say fender.
Mines 33 (more then twice my age) years old and still going stong.
It's not a Combo though.
Anyways, really depends what music you play and how far your willing to stretch that budget

Depends what you want (tube or SS), but if you like SS then a Peavey Bandit 112, would be a good choice, plenty of power, and it is an absolute tank, there's a pic in my profile also, but overall they are a real nice amp, for not being tube.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Peavey, most Fender amps (such as the Frontman series), Laney, Ampeg is also pretty reliable.
Got a question about Baritone guitars? Feel free to PM me.

Thanks to UG, I converted from Metalcore to some "real" Metal.

Wait a minute, you want an amp that you're gonna play with for the rest of your life and don't wanna spend over 500 bucks? How much do you care about music? :P

I am gonna get into an argument for this, but hey: Vox.
I've owned a couple of Voxes (including their valvtronics half-stack) and they are extremely well built. I dropped them, spilled beer into them, generally mistreated them and none ever malfunctioned on me.

I can't speak for the AC30 or AC15, but their valvetronics series is certainly built like a tank.
