best solo I can play? hmmm......

.......my own.

Seriously, I don't play other solos. I know, I know, they're good for technique etc. I just improvise over Blues songs mainly. But my own improv is good for technique building, and most importantly, they are filled to the brim with raw emotion.

Don't get caught up with the "I'm better than you because I can play this solo, and you can't" mentality. That's on the edge of Guitar Hero maturity.

I think John Mayer Trio's cover of "Wait until Tomorrow"

Although, the hardest solo i can play is slow blues solo'es to stuff like B.B. King, Clapton and SRV. I like fast solos and sweeps and shredding, but a slow blues is just the hardest thing to play and make it sound good.
#16
the only solo i learnt was nothing else matters - metallica

i don't learn solos note for note for some reason

Same, but it's still good to learn techniques from other solos so you can add new flavor into your playing.

To answer the question, off the top of my head I think the hardest solo I can play is the solo to Needled 24/7 by Children Of Bodom. But I have to improv half of the solo since it's very whammy bar oriented, and I have no whammy bar on my guitar.

I've always had problems playing other people's solo's, I can improvise just fine but when I try to translate the tabs to the song something just craps out in my head.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I can play bits and pieces of most Metallica solos (Enough to sound authentic), grab-ass the bits in-between and no one is usually the wiser

Oddly, a lot of people compare my style of soloing to Santana. Not a lot of notes, but the ones I play count.

Zakk Wylde - Sold My Soul

great soulful solo with a few tricky parts, definitely my favorite solo and the only one Ive learned (not a big fan of learning solos, I feel like you don't improve at all just by learning tabs)
#30
Third Eye Blind--The Red Summer Sun, though the solo actually got cut from the song, it's at the end of the CD as a bonus. I've improved my own little touch to it which makes it partially my solo, so I love playing it even more.

Probably "Black Sheep", by Sonata Arctica.

But I don't use to play that style anymore, now I'm more into improvising blues and funk.

Metallica - One, Fade to Black, Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters

I'm not a big solo player not b/c I can't but I just enjoy rhythm play better.

these are some the hardest solos i can play..

One
Fade To Black
Struggle Within
Purple Haze
All Along The Watch Tower
Voodoo Chile

to me, the non solo parts of Fade To Black or Little Wing are harder to play, im not very good at chords and such

i do better at solos or just fast rhythm stuff like Whiplash, Jump In The Fire etc
