FWI? Man, it's some amazing stuff. I've never personally worked with it, but I have played three instruments that use it. Two were customs that were absolutely phenomenal (love cocobolo) and the other was a vintage D-28; nothing like it.

Congratulations; you won't regret it.
Sincerely, Chad.

Nope, it's not, because after upgrading the saddle, any other mods you might want to do to the guitar won't make near as much of an impact. You'll more than likely be completely satisfied with the tone of it once the FWI is in place and keep it just the way it is. A bone nut is a nice upgrade, but it won't net you near as much tone as the saddle will, and the same goes for bridge pins. About the only other thing you can mess with to get better tone is strings, and those aren't all that expensive really.
Nice choice on the saddle also. I went with cow bone(byproduct of the beef market, and is very plentiful) when I did my upgrade, and it was like lifting a blanket off the sound. You'll see(er, hear) what I mean once you have it installed and all strung up again. Oh, and put a brand new set of strings on it at the same time as the new saddle. Something quality.

thankyou lefty but i think that i may be happy with the tone of this guitar now. But what about the other three i have to buy now

and yes the nut i would think has the least effect most likely because only the open strings would beniffit as basically my finger would be come the nut where ever i fretted a string.
but perhaps it would give it a touch more sustain as it is a denser surface to vibrate on.

pins are next just for vanitys sake though i wonder if he can make 6 that say t-a-y-l-o-r in FWI like the martin ones illl wait till i get this saddle sorted out then inquire.

full review forthcoming most likely over the weekend.

I'm sure he can. I'd call to inquire, but I'm almost certain he will.

Bridge pins and nuts really do make a difference. The plastic bridge pins were the first to go on my Seagull, and I noticed a much clearer sound with less harsh overtones when I replaced them with bone. The saddle was next and we all know how that went. The nut came last, but it still made a subtle difference in tone. The difference is more noticeable on electric guitars, but still there on acoustics.
Sincerely, Chad.

i got the saddle thursday. it was shipped in a safe way and highly insulated to prevent damage. it was also shipped with detailed instructions on how to form the saddle to fit your specific guitar's bridge. None of this was a problem as i had ruined my original saddle and had already replaced it so i was familiar with the proper way to do it.(the second time around anyway).

i had put on new dr rares on wednsday so i could knock the new off of them with the tusq saddle. then i could a b them and no it wasnt new strings making the difference. HAPPILY i say it wouldnt have mattered. the FWI saddle is so pristine. i wish i could finger pick better all the sounds are far more clarified and sustain with such a ring. when i strummed (i am an agressive strummer) there was no "muddieness" i could here the whole chord form as my pick ran across the strings.

when i plugged in the sound was more refined through the new saddle and it seemed to take some of the boominess out of the k&K UBT without killing the already trebely taylor balance. Long story short trimmed up the treble and mids on my preamp and got a far superior tone through both my crate acoustic amp and my freinds PA where i sat in for a tune at the bar we frequent. i think that being able to dial out some of the trebs and mids and still get a good balance is wholly because of the saddle.

i am extremely happy with the product and deffinitly recommend a saddle upgrade for anyone serious about getting all they can out of their guitar. I chose one of the more expensive materials but you can get a quality bone saddle from colosi saddles for a very reasonable price.

Also i called his shop personally and didnt get through left a message and to my suprise at around 8:00 eastern time he called me back and took my order then and there and got it shipped out in the am mail before he went on holiday. thats cool quality customer service and i was quite pleased with mr colosi on this and all aspects of the process.
