I don't see much difference there.

I also agree with the user above me. Both might be good for metal. Not much else.

Yeah....everyone thinks that your treble should be high and bass low when playing metal......for gods sake. Turn your gain to 8-9, treble 7-8, middle 4, bass 6......and use an overdrive pedal to give it more gain w/o dirtyin it up if its a tube amp

Both of them suck which means both of you are n00bs.

It should be at least another year before you guys actually bother to look into what tone is.

on my amp
Treble 7
Mid 4
Bass 7

and I match this to my pedals to balance the tone

treble or bass at 10 is just rediculous

More tone comes out of your fingers and amp.

You shouldn't bother with it cause you don't know anything about it.

Says the person who come onto an online forum asking who had the crappier settings? Tone is personal taste anyway, and you would look like much less of a noob if you had asked for whose settings people preferred.

Anyway, treble- 7, mids-7, bass-6 or thereabouts, running a compressor into it at times, nearly always on cleans.

Just... no...

Though a player's skills do in fact affect a player's sound, it doesn't dominate his tone. That comes from the gear. A ****ty amp will always sound ****ty no matter what if it's low quality don't ya think? Even if you have an expert guitarist playing through it the amp will still sound bad (though the piece of music may be perfect). Why do you think ppl want to get good quality gear? Because it produces a better sound.

Oh, and the time you've played has nothing to do on knowledge. A friend i had could out-shred me even though he'd only played half the time i've played but he still is nowhere close on knowing some of the stuff i know such as gear, some theory, and using effects.

That doesn't mean anything? I'm just asking which do YOU think sounds better to your ears... which has nothing to do with mine knowledge of tone.I love my settings and this thread is not going to to change it.

Actually your original post asks "which is a crappier setting." If it doesn't bother why are you asking? Just tell your friend that it's personal preference.

I play Melodeath and I boost my mids.

I personally like to hear myself in the mix.

But yeah, your settings are only slightly better.

0 mids = phailz on your friend's part.

My point is that you're accusing someone of knowing nothing about tone when you've come here to ask complete strangers to compare your own. It just seems a little hypocritical.

Anyway, I'd probably say yours but only because of your mate's scooped mids.

In my band we all have roles regarding to the sound picture. The bass drum and the bass does the low end (meaning that the guitar DON'T need low end), the singer/guitar (mostly the singer) does the high end, meaning a bit of high end, but not too much (on 10 - wtf?!). So that leaves the guitar right in the middle.... meaning LOTS AND LOTS OF MIDDLE to cut through the mix and get heard. Scooped mids and lots of low end just makes it all go muddy and crappy.

Therefore my settings are like this:

Bass: 1-2
Middle: 11!
Treble: 4-6

+1. I use the same mid amount (4), but I usually keep the treble at 7 and the bass at around 6.

Scooped mids and high treble will get you a thrash metal tone (early Metallica, Kreator, ...). Moderate mids are more death metal.
Depends on the music you play, none of those settings is more noob...
