Whenever I turn it on, it comes to my desktop, then just...doesn't. It basically freezes, I can't open any programs without it taking 5 minutes...

you most likely have a pc
if you want your computing world to be 99.9% perfect get a mac, trust me

but just clean up your computer, if tehres nothing really important on it, reformat teh hardrive
othertise just be patient, maybe it takes 5 minutes cuz you try to run 400 things, and you don't have much ram, it takes the average pc about 2 minutes to boot up, even though M$ says windows should boot up in a matter of seconds

I've heard stupidity is contagious. Maybe computers are susceptible now.

im sorry for "trolling" even though im not sure what it is, but tbh, macs are faster, windows run more, its balanced, but each has there use, and the man asked a question, i was answering it for him

Trolling is taking over a thread and arguing about something which isn't called for, and you're still doing it. TS didn't ask what OS to get, he said he had a problem and asked how to fix it.

Anyway, FoolOnThePlanet, do you have nVidias network access manager (aka nVidia control panel)?
If you don't know what that is, check control panel. It will be there if you have it.

The computer is swapping data between your hard disk drive and RAM, or that's what I would suspect. If I remember correctly, the processor is needed in the swapping, and when there's a lot of stuff in computer, the processor is busy and your computer may seem to freeze.
#25
TS,

There are so many things out there that can cause this kind of problem. Bad / corrupt drivers, a virus, faulty hardware etc...

Try booting in Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly when you turn on your PC) and running System Restore and return to a date prior to this incident.

If this doesn't work, your best bet would be to format your C: and reinstall Windows (assuming you have all yourr important data backed up).

Hope this helps!
