its mostly for detuning, heavier gauge strings are tighter when u detune so its easier to play

From what I've heard, .9 to .10 is alright, no major adjustments needed, besides like, intonation. But if you go to .11, you may need some truss rod adjustments. Really no tonal difference that I can hear, it just feels different.
My gear:
Schecter C-1+ w/ Seymour duncan Jazz (neck) and Full Shred (bridge), with Sperzels
B-52 LG-100A 4x12 half stack
Rogue LX405 Bass
Yamaha classical
Some sort of acoustic Squier
Boss Flanger
Lyon Chorus

You might have to adjust your intonation a little. Really no big deal. Don't hesitate to have the guy at the shop do it.

My string gauge should be located in my owners manual, correct?
