Okay pit. I have two years. Top of 5k dollars. I'm storing my Lexus SC300 when i go to college and i need something else to drive. My options so far are:

1970s to 1992 Camaro (would spend about 2k on this car, would do a motor swap)
1984 S10, i already have it but i would do a V8 swap with a 5 speed
Honda civic, cheap, good gas, but slow

anything else? i'm looking for a v8, no trucks i have one i use for towing and ****
also looking for RWD

No schpeils about gas and what not, my parents are paying for my gas. I have 2 years to save up as much as i can and i need something reliable, fast, and fun...and sexy

pretty much what i'm asking is what are some cheap fun and quick cars? can be a shell i'll havet he money for engine and tranny

You're a sophomore in high school and you have a lexus and are getting a second car for 5k, but your first car still works fine and is a lexus?

Get a classic porsche.

Saw an ad for one in my dad's shop for 5,000.

1974 porsche 914. really nice car.

my dad's got a silver one.

What's wrong with the Lexus exactly?

If you don't need to carry much around, don't plan on driving friends around, etc. I would say motorcycle as it will be much easier to park, and if your school is anything like mine, parking here absolutely sucks.

If you want inexpensive, v8 w/ good power, and decent on gas, look into a fox body mustang... anything between 79-93... I have an 83 convertible 5.0 4-speed, it runs great. about 200 horse at around 20mpg. also, rear wheel drive.

How the hell can you afford a lexus in high school? I know people that work 60 hour weeks and wont ever be able to afford a lexus.

The lexus is 13 years old, but i'm the second owner and i put on 6k miles already. The prices of this era of SC has gone up significantly considering it's the pioneer of its time. Back in 92 cars were still boxy as hell, lexus introduced the "curve" to the sports car scene. it's a pioneer and the mkiv's brother. The supra was what..35k when it was introduced? people realized its potential in the 2jz motorset and prices skyrocketed to twice its sticker. The same thing is hapenning to the SC. People have realized it has the same motor and chassis and are starting to really make some serious business from them. Currently the fastest street sc is on a 2jz stock bottom end and is making 900+ horsepower and is running in the 7-8 1/4. The car appraised with the motor was over 60k, 5 thousand more then the car was worth 10 years ago. I'm storing mine because a low mile classic car is gonna be worth a fortune in the long run. I paid 11k for a 13 year old car that in 50 years is gonna be worth 5 times that easily

i'd say the civic just cause I'm partial to those.

but parking at my school (University of texas at Austin) is bull****. Parking passes run 100 bucks minimum and provide little parking flexibility. Though there are the more expensive passes (which you seem to be able to pay for "Mr. Lexus in high school") with garage access and those would be your best bet.

But having a car in college is nice but not REALLY needed, unless you plan to be going around exploring; the more friends you meet the more cars they'll have as well as public transportation which, in Austin at least, is great.

let me clarify some things.

we have money, quite alot but i'm not a prick about it. i paid for half of my car so about 6 grand of my money that I earned. everything on the car, stereo, wheels, tires, maintenance, i have to pay for. I've invested, with the payment of the car, about 9k dollars into it

This is our garage, starting fromt he crap to the nice
1. my 1984 S10, not running, 4cyl 4 speed
2. 2001 Dodge Ram, dads DD for 7 years, 178k miles on stock motor
3. 2001 Chrysler Sebring Conv't. Moms DD for 7 years, but only 40k miles
4. Sisters 2005 Chrysler sebring, 50k miles
5. other sisters 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee LMTD, 110k miles
6. My 1995 Lexus SC300 108k miles, second owner, first owner owned Markel BMW, Lexus, mercedes in Omaha
7. 2006 Chevy Tahoe Z71, share with my dad, 24 inch wheels, borla dual exhaust
8. 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, dad's original owner, 12k miles, in storage, 3 inch exhaust, 20 inch wheels, lowered 2 inches, 6 spd
9. 2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG - mom's new car, will only be driven on weekends only delivery miles
Dad's new car will either be a 2008 Jaguar XKR, Mercedes SL500, or a Bentley Continental GTC

Income wise, we are wealthy, but not flashy wealthy. Cars 1, 2, and 7 spend all their life outside Cars 3, 6, and 9 spend their life in our garage at home. 8 is in a heated garage, and 4 and 5 are off at college.

What's wrong with one of the cars you have?

Fix the S10?
Take your mom's old convertible?
Take the truck you share with your dad?
Take the Firebird?
