Hey it's Tom here. Just thought I might add my current Modding of my guitar to the forum. I'mtkaing out he two front pick-ups, filling the gaps, sanding whole body, painting it black and doing the headstock black with blood spatter. This was my old guitar got it for $200 NZD (about $150 USD) on NZ version of Ebay (Trademe.co.nz). This actually sounded good but I hated the wood finish. Got a few Pics for Ya! Sorry for the quality the photos are from my phone... All I had on me...

This one is after I took out the pups. I need to use it as a back-up at a gig so I stringed it again:

Took Eveything of and organized it:

Sanded a little bit and took out all the pups and floyd:

Started to fill in switch hole:

Filled in Humbucker crew holes:

Box of stuff like backplate and screwdrivers:

Drew on humbucker hole to cut out of wood:

So yea thatsa 'bout it so far... Will upload more soon. Getting my dad to help me out so soon things will get up and going. If you have any questions just ask...

Can't wait to start painting it will look sooo coool.

WHY?! That finish is cool, haha.

Nah I just hate it. And for a Death Metal band it looks odd onstage. I get so many people asking WTH is that guitar!! It looks to normal and jazzy... lol and I have allways wanted to do a guitar.

but generally they have black and white bound ibanez or esp lol.

wont your efforts to make this thing look metal all be in vein by the fact it has butterfly inlays ?

You don't think black looks normal?

Anyway, my guess is you probably dress in black onstage anyway, and the stage is usually dark aswell, so if your guitar is black it won't really distinguish itself. But sure if you're looking to be TEH Br00talz and look like everyone else you're going in the right direction for sure...

Aziraphale: Genreally i wear a white shirt on stage and black jeans so the guitar would stand out.
admbwr: I love the butterfly inlays and it adds some serenity to the guitar in amongst the blood spatter and blackness. and white binding on neck lol. And i do own an ESP (seen in sig)

Shhhh, we found that out after we named it. It's a demon from Christian demonology. But then we found out diablo II boss chick with lots of arms was called that... O well. Thanks for admiring the name.

If it counts for anything i dont hate ya... I would have done the same thing, i've messed up plenty of suppossedly good looking guitars and a few people have came to me to mess theres up as well lol... Make it yours man make it yours...
#18
You're a fellow NZer!

I think that the old paint job is alright, but I reckon that the black would look average too...
Maybe make it different somehow? Maybe Black/White swirl or splatters?
Either way, good luck with it!

I agree...That is a gorgeous finish, and your going to slap black on it just for image sake!? Be different unlike the rest of the death metal bands out there. Your music will speak for itself. Trust me...

I used to have a guitar student who once told me he hated strats because they weren't aggressive like les pauls or gothics. I quickly changed his mind by playing something and showing him it's the player and the music, not the guitar shape or color.

I Know!! I just wanted to try doing something to my guitar so I trhough I would do this. And black blood would look really cool now I think about it more!

you could just order one from a guitar store or buy one, they're like 5-10 bucks each tops, i'd say getter a better one (CTS probally) since they are more reliable but it's nt a real biggie, if you want a little bit of versatility in your sound get a push/pull pot so you can have your bridge humbucker split or in parallel wiring (if it doesnt interest you you could just get a normal 500k pot0

It is exactly the same but a tone pot has a (capacitor or resistor or something) on it so it only removes certain frequency's but if you take that of its exactly the same!

That's a weird way of filling pickup cavities, If it was me i'd have chiseled the cavaties' corners square, Then you don't have to raduis the bit of wood that goes in the hole, I think.
#39
Well there you go. Yea I hate atreyu...

MORE PICS!! Hope you guys are lovin them. Again with my phone but some of them turn out good!

Single Vol pot FTW!!!!:

Closer up of the soldering. My mate did a very nice job!:

The plan was for the Vol. pot only. Put then somehting happened to it so my mate was like "Put a kill switch in it!" so we were gonna do that tomoz but then I realized that the tone was the same pot but with a capacitor that only allows certain stuff through so it olny chnages the tone not the vol..... anyway!n we got that all going now and thats it in the pics. I think we screwed the opther one up because we were soldering to the base and heated up tooo much! Anyway Enjoy! and as allways ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU WANT!
