Ah pit..ignore the minor mistakes here and there...how's the statement ?

God this is so whiny...

UPDATED VERSION:
At a very young age, I developed an interest in taking apart all sorts of appliances and toys so that I could figure out how they worked. I would also try making all sorts of gadgets and machines.

During middle school, I received a toy r/c plane as a gift. I was thoroughly excited! As I delved more into the study of aerospace, I came to realize the enormous amount of technology that went into making an aircraft. My father, currently working as an aeronautical engineer, would bring home manuals on various aircrafts. I would ask him to tell me about the working of each component of an aircraft. I was captivated and tried to make all sorts of odd r/c aircrafts which developed my skills in modelling, circuitry and mechanical hook-ups and gave me an understanding of the basics of controlling and propelling an aircraft.

According to me, this is the perfect study for the simple reason that I have a passion for it. It is a career where I can display my creativity and implement my ideas.

At school, I have held the post of Head Boy and House Captain, which have helped develop my leadership qualities, reliability and mould me into a more complete individual. During my term of holding these posts, I have helped solve student issues and organize school events. I've also been in charge of the school magazine team. This helped me prioritize and helped me improve my time management while working towards completing a task before the deadline.

I have always been interested and involved in diverse extra-curricular activities. I have won medals in track and field events. I play cricket and have participated in various club matches. I also play other games such as football, volleyball and badminton for my school team. I like to go swimming and snorkelling in my leisure time.

Music has always been one of my greatest passions and I play the guitar and drums in bands and have played for shows in schools and other venues. I have an avid interest in recording and producing music.

These interests have taught me to remain focussed, disciplined and work in a team environment.

In recent times I have developed a keen interest in computer programming, which hopefully, will prove to be useful in my career as an engineer.

Most importantly, I would like to study in a place where academics and my individual interests blend seamlessly and where I can develop my academic and extra-curricular prowess.

Thank you.

So what say ?? good enough ??

I hate reading things like this. It makes you (and not only you - my friends, coworkers, even myself) sound like idiots.

Having said that, sounding like an idiot gets you places! Damn, you should read my CV, I sound like a reet ponce. Still, I got my job!

Good work, and good luck.

Get rid of "It blew my mind" other than that it's pretty good.

Bath and Soton are the best of the unis you've applied to in my opinion.

Loughborough is always good for engineering.

Have you been to Loughborough? It's a total dump. A couple of years ago someone even got shot at the student union. Everyone I know that went there changed to somewhere else because they hated it.

Surrey, Sheffield, Liverpool, I didn't look at. I used the times online guide to choosing a good uni lol, then chose the best universities that I could realistically get in to.

I'd maybe put Nottingham instead of Surrey or Liverpool, it has reeeally good engineering facilties. Massive warehouses full of workshops. Really nice campus too.

I also had Southampton on my list, but for acoustical engineering. I first wanted to do that course but changed my mind when I saw the 2 universities, Nottingham looked better. I needed AAB for Nottingham and got ABB, still got accepted. You should be fine as long as you don't do terribly, engineers are short at hand so they try to take on many. Also I get £250 a year for achieving that A at A-level. Would of been £1000 if I got AAA.

nottingham instead of surrey ?

After you get your results and say you fail, you go through "clearing" or whatever it's called. Which involves calling lots of universities to ask "PLZ ACCEPT ME I HAF NO SHOES."
#21
Clearing is seriously easy to do. If I were applying again I wouldn't even bother with a personal statement - I'd just put the forms in really late and go through clearing and skip the normal application process.

Sounds OK but towards the end you need to use different words from 'also, also also etc.' show it to a teacher as well as they will no better than most people on here.
Looking to buy a Fender Jagstang, u sellin?

i would make it a bit more formal if i were you. (I got laughed at by my teachers for putting "i was hooked" in )

also everything you say needs to be directly related to the course. and if it isn't find a way to make it related. last few paragraphs, (sports and music ones) you need to say what specific skills you gained from each of these things.

i applied to:
warwick
durham
newcastle
loughborough
sheffield

for mechanical/general engineering and got offers from all of them with my personal statement. just waiting for results now

Nottingham over surrey definitely

Bath is really nice - my sister lives there as does one of my housemates so I know the place pretty well. There's very low crime in the town and some pretty good pubs and bars.

Or a replacement for surrey if it isnt a good uni...

Is English your first language? I know your an international student, but just wondered.
"According to me,"
That sounds a bit funny, maybe you should say "in my opinion".
Maybe change R/C to remote controlled. It's a more formal, and I don't hear British people saying RC, just Americans on TV.
Other than that, I think it's the kind of stuff you're supposed to have in a personal statement

**** me x-boy i applied for aerospace engineering too.

anyway..i did mine in october.

compare
One of the things that has intrigued me since I began studying Physics in school has been the
subject of Engineering. Things such as electronic systems, computers, mechanical systems,
planes and other vehicular systems always took my interest. This influenced my choice of
subjects at GCSE and A level and slowly developed my interest into the general field of
Engineering for my university course choice and plans for my future career. I had considered
other courses, but my enthusiasm always lay within the field of Engineering. I am whole
heartedly interested in a career that offers a lifetime experience, pursuing new limits of
achievement while maintaining a great level of enjoyment. I believe that only Engineering can
deliver this experience for me.
My interest in Engineering courses was first sparked by gaining an insight into my cousin's
Engineering career with BT. His continued research within his field and the absolute enjoyment
he receives from it inspired me to begin research myself. My first proper experience with
Engineering came when I attended the annual Engineering Conference held in Methodist College.
It featured many different universities from the British Isles, and included a presentation
from a very inspiring and challenging speaker who rose up the ranks of Engineering to become
the owner of a number of businesses. I gained a lot from this, as well as the various talks
and questions that followed. The trip to Queens University Engineering faculty was
fascinating, providing close insight into state of the art Mechanical and Electronic machinery
in operation, along with detailed descriptions of their functions. We watched high pressure
water jets cut steel which was to be used for a final project. The whole trip was excellent
and further fuelled my interest in Engineering.
I also secured a work experience position at Mulholland and Doherty Civil Engineering
consultancy, as I had yet to experience much in the way of civil Engineering. The company
specialised in water mechanics and planning work, involving detailed blueprints of structures
and water facilities. I was able to get involved in problem solving and assessment tasks on
site. Another aspect which I involved myself in which had already been introduced to back at
the Engineering conference was CAD. This time I was guided by an experienced professional who
had worked with Design Systems for years. Every new aspect I encountered had me constantly
asking questions to learn more. At our schools Careers Convention, I secured as much
Engineering information as possible.
I strive to do my best in all areas of my education and also school life. I'm very interested
in Physics and Maths, as they are key areas of Engineering and should provide the necessary
foundation for working towards my degree. I also found History and Economics to be interesting
subjects to have at AS and A-Level.
My interest in enterprise led me to join the Young Enterprise team in which we marketed
electronic gifts and made a substantial profit. My role of Operations Director enabled me to
learn key aspects of management and teamwork skills. I had also been a member of the CCF since
year 8 reaching the level of NCO but left this year to pursue Young Enterprise. I was able to
pickup more skills such as leadership whilst learning discipline during my time in the CCF.
I play school rugby at medium level and hope to continue at University. It has motivated me to
work harder at it and given me the opportunity to utilise my teamwork skills. I exercise a lot
in the gym, and in addition, I enjoy outdoor pursuits such as hiking and especially cycling. I
also teach myself musical theory and guitar in my spare time as a hobby. Through all this I
have learnt to balance my work and leisure activities, realising what my limits for each
aspect are.
My continued research in the field of Engineering has finalised my decision to apply for
Mechanical\Aerospace and\or Electrical Engineering.

i got 5 offers immediatley and my results were **** so musta been the personal statement

Modules are like split up exams that you take in January/February. It's basically a short exam that covers the topics you did in the first term and a half. It splits the course up and means you don't have to do exams on absolutely everything in the summer.

Subjects like sciences, maths, psychology, philosophy, sociology etc. are often modular.
