Also, when shops have odd prices like £2.31.

What if your total comes to 5.56 and you want to give exact change?

no...everything is 19.99 on the tv...
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why mankind is.

the system would change, all of you .99 people....EVERYTHING would be either rounded up or down to the nearest nickel...for those of you who think it will round up, more than it will round down, you are wrong, it evens out.

.95, .96, .97 are all rounded down(or stays the same for .95)
.98, .99, .00 are all rounded up (or stays the same for .00)

I have been arguing this for years! Thank you! But also (this happens in America, I don't know about in Europe) If something costs say $4.99, they advertise it as "Under $5!!!!" Barely!! C'mon!
Out here you've gotta know where your towel is!

No, there's no point. Why bother when the system we have works well.

Pennies actually cost more than $0.01 to produce them, so we're losing money for each penny we make. They were considering rounding prices to the nearest nickel.

Yes they should. The UK makes a loss on issuing pennies, which is stupid when inflation has made them almost worthless.

No. Everyone gives their small change to charity, it would damage the profits of plenty of charitable organisations. Not to mention things that cost something.99.

EDIT: I'll get my shovel...
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

the .99 thing is to make you feel like something costs less.

if i say something costs two hundred quid it seems like a lot

if i say something costs only 199.99 it makes it seem cheaper, its under 200 pounds.

same deal with car companys saying you could have X car on the road for under 6000 when its like 5999

i dont think pennies have much of a use these days but they are good for charitys and stuff.

Yes to single (USA) cent pieces.
No to (english) pennies.

English ones are worth more!

But still, it's annoying when a 2 litre bottle of Irn Bru is like £1.57, I mean, what the poppycocks!

I'm sorry you can't understand the concept. Getting rid of the penny would be economically, as well as ecologically, intelligent and productive.

No, it's a dumb idea. It's bad for a business, because it leaves them unable to add small amounts to the price of items to cover small increases in costs.
And what about countries that have sales taxes? It won't work.
Sorry you can't understand that.

im pretty sure what they are going to do if this goes through is to round every item up or down to the nearest nickel. Therefore it would be 5.55 or 5.60

each penny costs $0.04 to make and inflation is to the point where 1 cent can't buy anything so they should definitely get rid of it.
