Suggest me some classically trained rock or metal guitarists? People like Randy Rhoads, Ritchie Blackmore and Uli Jon Roth

Just a correction........ Satriani and Vai are not classicaly trained. Satch was trained mostly in jazz and general rock, whereas Vai, was trained in the Rock and Metal of the day (Led Zep, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa).

Also wrong.

Just because a guitarist uses harmonic minor DOES NOT MEAN THEY'RE CLASSICALLY TRAINED.

I don't think he's a classically trained guitarist, but I believe he was trained in something - he came from a musical family, IIRC.

It doesn't matter too much anyway. Metal has heavy classical influence and most music comes from classical roots anyway. Metal is absolutely no exception.

Paul Gilbert cannot play actual flamenco-style guitar, and judging from his hands in that video, he would be a sh*t classical player.

Yngwie, Satriani, Vai, Becker, and I'm sure a lot of others named in this thread are not classically trained.
#24
FFS, nobody mentioned in this thread (other than Chris Broderick, I think) is classically trained. Neo-classical =/= classical.

Matt Bellamy is a classically trained Pianist and that has an influence on his guitar playing, but he's not a classically trained guitarist.

Well, I have to get ready for work, so I can't give my description, but for guitar, I'd read the performance section of this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_Guitar

Plus, there's sight-reading, recognizing pitch, etc.

Taught on classicals, fingerstyle, in music halls by uptight German dudes, and never allowed to improvise.

They then rebel and pwn their former master in a rock duel with long pentatonic solos and powerchords; and become rockstars.

I belive he was brought up Classialy trained on the piano, If were saying Classically trained on any Classial instrument then

Eddie Van Halen ( Piano )

Alex Laiho ( apparanly played the Violin )

Randy Rhodes ( I believe he was brought up naturally on rock ( guitar ), but he learned Classical guitar at his mums school )

Theres more but I`m tired

So, if you learn on a classical guitar, your classically trained?

EDIT : How to play classical guitar, not just on a classical guitar

alexi laiho, i dont know if he was trained classicaly with the guitar, but i think he played vioiln before guitar, and you can hear classical influence in almost all of his solos, mostly earlier stuff though

Nah, it has to be the whole shebang. Taught with the aid of Moonlight Sonata rather than Come As You Are.

Basically, if you were originally taught to be a classical guitarist, you are classically trained.

Really? I didn't know Alexi played the violin. Maybe thats a reason for the classical influence on his SomethingWild stuff?

So if I start playing classical guitar (Bach, etc.) by a classical guitarist, am I being classically trained?

No, as you already knew n00b guitar

Classically trained requires the whole music school with a German teacher thing. Also, you have to be 11 or younger when it happens, or it doesn't count.
