How much of the sound and tone is affected by the amp types...here a Peavey Valve King 112 combo vs. a Crate V18 112 combo (Class A on the Crate and A/B on the Peavey, I believe).

Just need a practice amp to play with my band, we play rock to heavy rock (not really any metal but I guess thats a point of view...hehe).

I have not heard either in person yet...just recording so that will make the final decision, just looking towards opinions atm.

Thanks

Class A vs AB? Don't worry about it.

They're both AB anyway.

True. The one is just advertized as class A because it is cathode biased.

Anyway, I'd go with the v18.

Yea I was leaning more towards the V18 anyway...I hear good things about them. I will hopefully find time this weekend to go to the music store and see if they have some in stock to play on.
