I am not listening to a lot of music at the moment i feel like im not into much stuff at all. Maybe its the quality of albums/production/mp3s on pc over cd quality, but im just not listening to a lot of stuff

I like Opeth/Floyd/Crimson/Tool/Carcass/Mastodon/Gojira/

guys ive heard all the related heavy bands. looking for something better that generic metalcore bands with their hair gelled to one side ...i want like heavy but lots of keys effects.like electronica, with melodic melody filled vocals, and progressive but not progressive as in look at me wankstain solos

Between The Buried and Me: Colors (whole album) left me absolutely speechlesss. Amazing album, one of the best I have ever heard. If you don't have it already I would suggest all of The Red Hot Chili Pepper's discography, especially Staduim Arcadium and Californication and By The Way. If your looking for some serious trippy stuff, so of the most trippy bands I've heard are: The Klaxons (amazing band) and Cut Copy (also very talented). Both are techno mixed with guitars.

You sound like you'd like Porcupine Tree.

First thing I thought of, definitely give them a listen.

Also, I'll second Dream Theater and Ayreon as well, but I would go for Porcupine Tree first as it seems to fit right into that style you gave examples of.

Try Dash the Assassin. They're some Detroit rock group that I found on Garageband. They're everything Fall Out Boy isn't and more. They're actually good, and the fact that Fall Out Boy is so popular and no one's ever heard of Dash the Assassin is beyond me.
You can find their album on itunes. I believe it's called "What we Learn from Failure".
