Looking for a good tube amp for metal/metalcore/post hardcore. Suggestions? Price would be 500-600. Maybe 700$ but it would take more time.

Best thing you will find in that price range is a Bugera. Thats what I use in a post-hardcore band, and it sounds epic

idk might not be enough gain, and bugera is more of a veteran tube amp becuase of the name and what its affiliated to, and from what ive seen they might not be the most reliable amp especially if it would be your first tube. it would be a bloody mess. i would personally save up a bit more and get a carvin V3.

Oh believe me, it has obscene amounts of gain. My normal settings are Lead Pre at 3/4 with Lead Out set to taste. Its way more than enough. How much gain do you honestly need?

Well... in this picture: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=35990775&albumID=51713&imageID=33263269 they're using a B-52 AT-100 head, not sure on cab.

Look into a used:

Peavey 5150
Peavey JSX
Peavey XXX
Mesa F Series
Mesa DC Series
Carvin V3

You could also go new with a Randall RG50TC or B-52 AT, but if you go used with any of the other amps I listed, you'd be better off imo.

the only way I could do that is if I bought off ebay.

You can't look on your local craigslist or something for something and go try it out?

Get a B-52 At100 or one of the AT combos. I've got one, and they are amazing. The stack runs 1000 new on MF but you could find it at 700-800 on ebay used. The combos run 700 and down.

I dk about the price range, but overall I would get the peavey 6505 or 6505+ (get sonic stomp for that lush high end metal sound)
Although that's, $1000 or so... I would just keep saving if I were you.

Get a nice cab too.. I dk about other cabs, so i wont say this is the best, but marshall 1960s deliver in any situation with any head

No, a 6505 stack is won't fit into his 600-700 dollar price range. Maybe a 5150 combo. but STILL, i'd go with a B-52 over a 6505 because the B-52 is much more verstatile. Just about everybody admits, the 6505 is a one trick pony.

I'd also like to add, the band you gave as an example uses a B-52 AT100 as their head.

NOOOO B52 has too much high end... its good for solos, but most modern metal needs more low...

The 6505 is plenty versatile... It just has a really over played sound every1 likes (8, 3, 6.5)

Then get higher rated speakers and turn the bass up on the amp. My B-52 has plenty of chug.

And the numbers there, are amp settings correct? Trebble, Mids, Bass? Tell me this, if a modern metal band needs alot of bass in their sound according to you, then why did the settings you suggested to him have scooped mids and high trebble? Hmm?

I'd also like to add, the 6505 stack is WAY out of his price range.

5150's are the same as the 6505's
my 5150 was $500
so just look used
and really if you play around with the volume and tone on your guitar you can get a decent clean sound out of it.
b-52's are pretty good though
tried the AT112 a couple weeks ago and it was $300 new
i liked it, but i like my 5150 much more.
but the AT series is more versatile ill give it that.

5150, a bugera 333-xl, or that AT-100: which is best for metal?

I'd pick up the 5150/6505 if possible, as long as you won't be playing anything besides the genres you listed in your first post.
