it means that the poster thinks their comment is so awesome that the thread should be ended. Basically means closing the thread without actually closing it. People post it the thread regardless
My explanation isn't that good, so this post does not deserve a /thread

Internet forums use codes to perform certain commands. For example, italicizing text used the code *insert text here*

(Imagine there are no spaces in between the first bracket and the "I.").

Thus, the command to end italics is /I. Many other commands have a "/" to signify an end to that command, as well. So, when people say "/thread," it's a "witty" way of saying "such and such a post answered the question posed in this thread so well that the discussion need not continue."

It comes from HTML end tags. In html you end all of your tags with </TAG>, replacing TAG with whatever you're using in that instance. On here people use it to indicate that they think a thread is lame or that they've answered the question and the conversation should end there.

when ppl are confident in their opinion, they say it to mean they think the best point has been made and there is no point in continuing the conversation.

And this isn't the place to ask this.

I feel rather certain this is an appropriate question in this forum.
Hopefully a Mod will clarify before this thread is closed.

i have no problem with people asking questions like this here if they don't understand a term that is being used a lot on the forums. in most cases i'd rather i they googled the term first though, or checked urban dictionary.
