I'm sure a few of you know Riverside, so I was surprised to not find a thread for them. They're a pretty good prog band from Poland (but about as metal as Ayreon let's say, a mix of prog metal and prog rock).

It'll make a really good listen for any prog fans. Links:

http://www.myspace.com/riversidepl

Fans?

Forgot to mention: They're playing Prog Power USA 2008 in September, which gives you a good idea of just talented they are.

Truly amazing band

Saw these guys live last year and they're just as good, if not even better than on albums
I’m not the man I used to be, I... I can’t go back to Arkham.

I... I should return to Arkham.

I thoroughly enjoy this band. Beautiful stuff.
if you have belief in ur soul and jesus you can do anything
#6
^Yeah, it is. I found it good for relaxing, or even as a break between more brutal stuff.

Favourite albums? The newest release isn't quite as good as the first two.

Rapid Eye Movement followed by Voices in my Head.

Panic Room on REM always gets me, such a great song. His voice with the general sound is great.

The live tracks off Voices in my Head are amazing. It gives you a real feel of what they're truly like as a band.

It's actually the first thing I got by them, so I always gravitate back to it.

They have quite a unique harmonious sound its great.

I wasn't hugely into them at first, but they grew on me. A lot.

It's all about harmony and structure with them. And as much as it's thrown around, it's nice to have some original stuff to listen to, where you recognise the sound straight away and know who it is.

Second Life Syndrome is where it's at
the title track is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard, seriously

I'm a huge fan of the Reality Dream trilogy too, especially the first 2 of them

Hmm. I have an album by them floating around this PC. Rapid Eye Movement I think it is.

I haven't really given it a proper listen, but hey, it's never too late to give it a go.

Yeah, that's probably the best album for me. This is the kind of music that heavily depends on my mood though.

You never know, one day maybe it will be too late.

You should probably listen to it as soon as possible.

^It can do that too. If I want to listen to something relaxing or thoughtful, then this band is great.

But sometimes, I wanna hear some tech death, or folk, or maybe even some elctronic stuff, depending on what state of mind I'm in.

Is that a threat?

^ It's the same with me, my music taste depends heavily on my mood. Sometimes I crave cheesy 80's power ballads, sometimes I crave tech death, it's just the way it is.

Ok I read enough to warrant giving this band a listen

So first album to get would be...

It's a threat. Yes.

If the police come knocking, I'm telling them that was a typo, and I meant to say thread.

The last time I started a Riverside thread it failed.

I searched for threads that mentioned "riverside" and for thread titles that were "Riverside" and came up with nothing.

Then I searched again afterwards and only my thread came up.

If kepulix and greety hadn't posted a few times, this would have failed too.

Whenever I start a thread on a really good band, it dies.

Then, someone else starts a thread on the same band and everyone fellates them. It ain't right, I tells ya.

But I digress. Rapid Eye Movement would be perfect except for its lack of the slow emotional songs that Riverside are good at making (Acronym Love, The Curtain Falls, Loose Heart). It has Schizophrenic Prayer, but it's not the same.
#26
^Yeah, I was slightly disappointed with it. But if I'd started there, I'd be more than happy with it but still like the earlier stuff.

And are you sure you made a thread? I just went through the list of threads you've made, and I didn't see it there.

Most of the time when I go to make one, I search and find you or Necrolust or someone has already made it.

I've only listened to 'em both once, so I can't really say. All I remember is that they were amazing. I think there were some songs on REM that kinda sounded alike though...
#31
Yeah, it did have that problem. But the more you listen, the more you start to hear subtle difference in each song. It's the most accessible of their albums, I think.

I actually got into these guys on a whim about a year and a half ago. I saw "Out of Myself" at a Tower Records here before it closed just because I thought the cover looked cool, and the little advertisement said "for fans of Opeth, Porcupine Tree, etc." I now have every single release of theirs, and have listened to each countless amounts of times. This band is ****ing brilliant.
#34
^"For fans of Opeth" is a bit misleading, but it definitely would appeal to the fans of Opeth's more progressive and clean stuff.

And I don't really like their cover art, it's just not to my tastes.
