Does this exist? Controlling distortion in a smooth way seems like a great idea to me.

There's a nifty little gadget called the T.I.P. 3rd Hand. You can essentially control any parameter on any pedal you want.

That probably works better, but as an alternative you could try this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Morley-FX-Blender-Expression-Pedal?sku=150255). I don't know how well it works and how good it sounds when you mix distorted signal and clean signal, tho.

Hmm, I'll check those out. And:
1. You can't really manipulate the volume knob while playing as you could an expression pedal.
2. I wanted a more extreme effect.

tbh the first one posted is pretty cheap, like I'm not sure on price but just the overall thing is a cheap pedal.

the zvex fuzz probe controls the distortion via light sensors that you manipulate by waving your foot over them, Death By Audio offers a similar feature on most of their pedals.
