I made some iron acetate (iron fibers absorbed into distilled vinegar), i work with a scientist and he mentioned it too me that depending upon the metals you use, how long you let it set for, adder chemicals, you can get black and red colors. I did some black today, it looks really rad. He told me that the metal particles absorbed into it will make figured wood look completely remarkable, and damn was he right. So i have this old piece of figured maple, ill show you what the bare iron acetate looked like, then on one side i sanded it a little and rubbed some red deck stain on, and ill show you how that looks too. its really interesting, and i plan on doing more with this.

anyone else have some home-made stain/paint ideas?
