Hey dudes, in about 5 months I can finally drive but after hearing everyone saying that this summer gas prices are supposed to be around $4 a gallon, the high of being able to finally drive goes down. I don't like paying for anything, my parents give me a few bucks to get food when I stay places I'll keep it to save for a new pedal or something.

How much do you guys that can drive spend like each week on gas? Would you rather have like a bike or moped?

Confused ..

Is that even a serious question?

Depends which truck I use. Costs about 70$ to fill up the small one, every one and a half weeks. That's not TOO bad, I guess.

I think it's worth it, however a moped would be more economical (I just couldn't bring myself to ride one)

I'll not be getting a car when I get my license. Gas is too damn expensive.

Besides, my town has a train station that goes to Hoboken and New York, and those are the only other places I'd ever need to go. I don't really need a car.

Depends on how far you have to go and how much driving you actually do a week. IMO totally worth it. Being able to drive is more liberating then you realize.

Yes. But a motorbike, even a sports bike or something, would be much better. Much more efficient.

$70 a week.. ****.

so you're saying you spend $280 a month filling up gas for ONE of your cars? Do you drive a lot?

I've been saving forever right now, and I have around $700 which I still owe $650 for my Orange 2x12 .. I won't be able to afford a car.

if you UK ppl dont like payin more for gas then ****ing move. In the US its a buyers market for real estate, and you could prolly get 3 bucks for every Euro or pound you got. So stop complaining that stuffs more expensive over there. You choose to be there. If you dont like it then move!!

move to Venezuela then... costs like 5000 bolivares to fill a full tank... and i mean a Hummer kinda tank

5000 bolivares = 1.5 dollards = (idk) .75 quid

i have to fill up about one every week and a half. last time i went it cost $51.

if you arent going to drive all the time it wont be bad.

on a side note, i was at the gas station tonight talking to my friend that works there. someone stole gas while i was there. she said it happens like a couple times a week at least.

I have to drive to school 30 miles away 3 times a week. Can't bike that, hence car. I don't really have much of a choice until next January when I transfer to a college that I can live at. Plus I live in a really small town, so I basically have to drive to get to any entertainment type activity. So yeah, totally worth having a car. If I lived in a large city though, I would definitely reconsider it.

That was way uncalled for.

Anyway, it makes sense to have a good car available, but really, it's easy to walk or bike to most places you regularly go to.
Especially with summer coming up. Public transportation is also always an option.

...How exactly do you steal gas? Do you have self-serve stations over in PA?

I would rather ride a bike places, but the only roads away from my house to anywhere in the city are country roads, full of potholes and obstacles which would force me to walk most of the way, or an extremely busy highway. Even worse I have to drive an SUV.

Even if gas goes up to 10 bucks a gallon, I'll still be buying a Trans Am.
To me, driving is as fun as playing guitar, so I don't mind paying to do it.

better question, how far will a gallon of gas go traveling at an average of 25-30 in town?

Yeah, we have no public transportation isn't an option here in the boondocks of Tennessee. It just doesn't exist. As for mopeds, you have to go on the interstate, or at least a major highway, to go anywhere. So, if you don't have a car, you're staying at home. Unless you can get a ride from a friend, or (in my sad case, I'm not 16 yet, but all my friends are), have your Mom drive you. Totally lame.

Anyway, it depends on where you live. If you live in a place where they have subways and stuff, nah. In my case, totally worth it.

depends on the car. Mine only gets like 22 miles to the gallon, most newer small to mid sized cars will get somewhere around 30.

Wait, so if they don't have self serve stations, do they fill your car up for you?

It's actually a law that says you are not allowed to fill your own car.
